I am an experienced and dedicated teacher who is passionate about sharing my love of music. I am friendly and approachable and believe strongly in the benefits of studying music, whether you want to learn seriously or just for fun!
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
My main instrument is Violin, but I also teach Viola, Piano and Music Theory. I have recently started offering lessons in pop/rock/blues guitar, as well as advice sessions about sibelius notation software.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Music (BMus) from Manchester University, and a Master's Degree (MMus) with distiction from the Royal Northern College of Music. I also hold a Licentiate Diploma of the Royal Schools of Music (LRSM), also with distinction.
- How much do you charge?
£25 per hour, £15 per half hour.
- Where do you teach?
I am based in Hulme and am happy to teach students at my house, although I prefer to you in your own home as I find it makes for a more comfortable and productive atmosphere. I am happy to travel anyone within a c.10 mile radius of central Manchester, but the further I have to travel the more likely it is that I will only be able to offer a full hour long lesson rather than half hour.
- When are you available?
I work on a freelance basis and will do my best to fit my schedule around you.
Additionally, I am perfectly happy to teach at weekends and during school holidays should that suit better.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
Everyone is welcome! I have taught people of all ages, ranging from children as young as 5 right up to retired people.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
ABRSM grades, or Trinity Guildhall if preferred.
- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
I am happy to teach theory via skype, but not instruments. I believe that being in the room with the pupil is vital to the process, particularly for beginners, and I would not be happy taking your money to teach in a less than ideal situation.
- What kind of experience do you have?
I am an enthusiastic teacher with years of experience in both one-to-one and small group settings. I have taught complete beginners (of all ages) right up to advanced players preparing for higher grades, diplomas or college entrance. Besides teaching, I am a former member of Southbank Sinfonia (who i have also conducted) and continue to freelance as an orchestral player across the country. I also have experience with educational and outreach work. I have recently returned to the area from London, so am actively looking for pupils to expand my business in Manchester and would love to receive enquiries. Besides instrumental teaching, which I am able to offer on violin, viola, piano or guitar, I also teach music theory and can offer advice sessions on the notation software Sibelius.
From September 2018 I will be working as a primary teacher on the prestigious TeachFirst Leadership Development Programme.
