A fun and friendly approach to playing the piano.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
- Tell me about your qualifications.
A graduate of the Birmingham Conservatoire (GBSM/ABSM); Dip.Mus (Sheffield University)
- How much do you charge?
As a professional, with a very busy practice, my fee reflects both my qualifications and my wealth of teaching experience to date. Younger students and their parents always come for a non-obligatory consultation and chat (£45) in which I will explain my teaching philosophy and advice on how best to proceed.
- Where do you teach?
From my home/studio in North West London. I do, however, have a small team of excellent teaching assistants who can travel on my behalf, currently teaching in South, South West and West London.
- When are you available?
Tuesday-Thursday 9.00 am-8.30 pm, Saturday 10.00 am -5.00 pm. Occasional flexibility outside these hours by negotiation.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
Children 5 1/2 + and adults, complete beginners to advanced.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
All ABRSM Grades, and occasionally other examining boards if appropriate
- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
Skype tuition for new students or as back up for existing ones
- Do you have a personal message for students?
Always enjoy what you are doing, give pleasure to those around you and strive for perfection, even though we know we will never achieve it!
- What kind of experience do you have?
Having held a number of teaching positions, most notabIy at King's School, Rochester, and the American School, St John's Wood, in London, I've since set up my own private piano teaching practice from my home in North West London, where I've taught students right across the spectrum, from 4 1/2-year-olds through to senior citizens! With over 30 years' teaching experience (I'm still amazingly young), I've taught both complete beginners, pop stars, lawyers and BBC producers. But whatever your ability and age, my aim has always been the same: to approach the lessons in a fun and friendly way, to enable you, long-term, to be able to teach yourself how to play, to learn the skill that will give both you and those around you, pleasure for life. Check out my on-going series of YouTube videos on The Basics Of Piano Playing in association with Rowland and Pianist magazine.
