I am a cello/piano teacher with 10 years experience of private teaching. I genuinely believe that anyone can play an instrument - it's just about picking the right one for you.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
- Tell me about your qualifications.
BMUS from Lancaster University - leader of the symphony & chamber orchestras
Grade 8 Cello
Grade 8 Piano
ABRSM Teaching Music Effectively Certificate
- How much do you charge?
I charge £35 per hour. I am happy to travel to you but may have to charge an additional £5 for longer journeys.
- Where do you teach?
Unfortunately I don't have the space to teach at home, so I am happy to travel to your home. To give you an idea of the areas that I already travel to; Highbury, Kingston-Upon--Thames, Richmond, Greenwich, Blackheath, Chiswick, Acton, Kew, etc.
- When are you available?
I am a working musician which means my timetable is ... changeable! I generally like to have fixed days and times for everyone but, obviously life gets in the way sometimes and times may have to change from time to time. I will always give plenty of notice if I have to change plans. Having said that, I will always make myself as available as possible.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
At the moment, my youngest pupil has just turned 6, and my oldest just turned 67.
I am comfortable teaching any age, and have a broad span of pupils from complete beginners to music college graduates.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
Generally I like to teach to ABRSM grade standards. I have taught Guildhall Trinity. And, for those who don't fancy doing grades just yet, I've got some cool things for you to do too!
- What kind of experience do you have?
I've been teaching since I was at university and when I returned home 3 years later I began work at the West Sussex music service. I also started work in a few different preparatory schools in the area (Prebendal school, Great Ballard, Portsmouth High school, Barrow Hills, King Edward's - Witley). Since moving to london I have focussed more on private tuition and orchestral playing. I am also a visiting teacher at the Oxford cello school.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
Yes, I have 2 current CRBs from the primary and secondary schools that I teach at.
- Do you belong to any professional organisations?
I regularly lead the cello section of The Orchestra of the City, and also with the Consort of 12 (Baroque Orchestra). I have played in the Lyra quartet for nearly 2 years now, and am currently putting together a cello quartet.
