I have a Bachelors in Politics and History, and a Masters in Global Politics. For 7 years I have been a Graduate Teaching Assistant while doing my doctorate in political philosophy - teaching general areas of International Relations and Politics, as well as in specialized topics, such as Democratic Theory, Security Studies, and Critical Theory. Since I already teach to some of the UK's best 1st and 2nd year undergraduates, I am well experienced and can offer expert tuition on broad areas of politics, theory, philosophy and history.
In particular, I can offer tuition -- including in-depth and specialised lessons, on the following areas:
- History of Philosophy
- Political Theory
- Democratic Theory / Philosophy
- Enlightenment History and Theory (incl. Liberalism, Utilitarianism, etc.)
- Marxist Theory (incl. Post-Marxism)
- Critical Theory (incl. Post-structuralism)
- IR Theory (incl. Realism, English School/International Society, Constructivism, etc.)
-Security Studies (including themes like counter-terrorism, securitization theory, and history and theory of humanitarian intervention)
- I can also offer tuition on a variety of other topics, from environmental politics to other subjects encountered in degrees ranging from History and Politics to International Relations.
I am happy to support university undergraduate students in above fields, as well as pupils doing IB, GCSE and A-Levels on these topics. I am also happy to supervise essays, including support with editing, formatting; and I offer full evaluation of essays and dissertations.
In particular I can offer the following:
- From £15 per 500 words, I can offer proofreading, editing, comments and indicative feedback, as well as referencing/citation checks on essays under 2500 words. See also below, as it may not always be possible to offer this rate if your essay needs significant rewriting.
- For essays over 2500 words, I instead charge a standard rate of £25 per hour of work, with a typical minimum being 3 hours of work for a reasonably good 2500 word essay. Different essays require different amount of work and this will be decided after a quick look at the script submitted. So, while an already strong essay may need no more than 2.5 of extra work on it, a poor essay may necessitate significant re-writing; recommendations for alterations in structure; second or even third readings/edits etc. which could mean double or even more time.
I can fine-tune tutorials to your liking, from focusing on a specific subject that you find difficult, to creating a full teaching plan to prepare you for university, or to improve your academic performance at university. Specifically, I can offer special price packages for repeat customers and students who follow a teaching plan with me. In these circumstances, I will offer a unique price that will be below the standard rate of £25 p/h. Contact me to discuss your specific requirements and see how I can help you.
If we agree on a long-term teaching plan, you will receive expert tuition which will include learning notes, recommended readings, tests or other exercises, etc.
I can guarantee that through my tuition you will be able to improve on your average marks -- usually by a whole band. So, if you struggle to get marks above 50%, I can ensure that you do; if you have always been just short of a first-class mark, I can help you achieve this higher standard, and so forth.
I am patient, caring and friendly. I can be flexible with teaching hours, and ensure that our lessons, my tuition, or my essay supervision works around your own hectic schedule. Having been voted Best Postgraduate Teacher twice in a row, I think I am well-placed to help you advance and succeed!
I am a PhD Doctoral Candidate in Political Theory and Philosophy, at a top-10 Russel Group University in the U.K.
I have degrees in International Politics & International History (BSc) and in Critical Global Politics (MA).
I have been teaching for 7 years, both in lecture theatres as well as in tutorial classes of 15 to 25 students. My research field is in Democratic Theory, but my teaching experience includes the fields of:
International Relations Theory
International Politics History
Themes, Challenges and Problems of International Politics
Political Theory including Marxism, Post-Marxism and Post-structuralism
I have also been giving 1-to-1 tutorials to students where required, for the past 4 years. In my 7+ years as a teaching assistant, I have provided tuition to well over 1,500 students. Some of my students went on to win scholarships, excellency awards, or wrote the best marked essay of their cohort.
I am happy to provide particular help with:
- setting up a year-long or semi-annual teaching plan, including tutorials and monitoring performance
- essay writing, including essay plan support, literature recommendations, revising and editing, referencing, etc.
- 1:1 Skype sessions on individual topics
I do not charge travel expenses for Exeter City Centre (within 1km of my residence). Any distances up to 3.5km from Exeter City Centre are charged £3.50 extra (bus fare). For longer distances I may have to charge you my actual transport fees (e.g. coach, bus, or taxi).
I am a PhD Candidate at the University of Exeter, researching democratic theory (a sub-field of political theory and philosophy). I have degrees (undergraduate and post-graduate) in International Relations and International History, and particular expertise on areas of history, political, philosophy, geopolitics, and international relations.
Currently I am being co-supervised by Dr Andrew Schaap and Dr Alex Prichard, reading Jacques Rancière, Ernesto Laclau, and Gilles Deleuze on the topic of "what is democracy" and "how does democracy happen". My dissertation posits a radical interpretation of democracy led by minorities who go on to influence and 'convert' the minds of the majority.
As such, my work revolves around questions of societal transformation and change, and is relevant to the future of international relations.
I am very interested in topics that explore contemporary politics and issues relating to human rights, global inequality and the critique of 'liberal' democracy; but also more abstract political ideas, including the position of 'voice' in democratic politics; post-democratic politics and re-conceptualizations of the notion of the democratic and the political.
As a Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) I have been teaching to first-year undergraduates since 2012, covering introductory topics, I.R. theory, and challenges in global politics. In particular I have taught on the following Undergraduate modules:
Globalization of World Politics
Challenges of World Politics in the 21st Century
Power and Democracy
In addition, I have been involved on an annual basis with Grand Challenges as facilitator -- a series of group-based projects revolving around various themes and current events. So far, I have been facilitator on the following challenges over the past 5 years:
Earth Tomorrow - regarding our environment and its protection.
Royal Albert Memorial Museum - regarding cataloguing, preserving and promoting museum artefacts in the digital age.
BREXIT - regarding influencing government policy on BREXIT and its negotiations.
Gender Inequality - regarding promoting gender equality and opportunities to transform society.
Due to my experience, I am particularly able to offer tutoring to undergraduate students of politics and international history; but I am also happy to offer expert tuition to anyone who requires it, on a variety of topics from history and philosophy, to geopolitics.
I also offer essay editing services.
Perfect! Andreas has really helped me to improve my essays and so gain higher grades. He is always helpful and supportive - even when I have been very last minute in asking.
Happy with Connor. Hopefully we can work together in the future again.
