As someone who recently went through both GCSE and A-level preparation, I am in an excellent position to be empathetic to the needs of students. Above all, I always maintain a friendly, helpful and personalised approach and look to work with pupils to identify and tackle their individual areas of weakness. I always maintain a sharp focus on the syllabus for the exam board that the student is studying, to ensure that all content is fully relevant for the final exam, that no time is wasted, and that you receive excellent value for money from the tuition. A lot of my work will also focus on developing exam technique to ensure that you can obtain the maximum number of marks possible, as well as tips and tricks for easier and more time-efficient memory/recall of a range of topics. I am happy to work with a wide range of abilities, including those from a lower or higher starting point.
As an aspiring teacher I have a range of experience working with GCSE level students, including:
1. A week-long work experience placement within a secondary school where I observed lessons and worked with students individually, providing feedback on their written work and answering questions.
2. Teaching of two students who opted to take a Higher Project Qualification in a secondary school; this is a 100% coursework based subject where students need to research a topic of interest and write a 5000 word report, both students obtained grade A.
3. Private English tuition for a year 9 pupil moving into year 10, looking to get a head-start on the GCSE syllabus.
I also enjoy helping my friends with various aspects of the Biology and Maths A level course, and I look forward to gaining more experience helping a range of ages.
I obtained grade 9 at GCSE and grade A at A-level in both Biology and Maths, and I am continuing to explore both subjects at a higher level through my degree, so I am very qualified for tuition of both GCSE and A-level Biology, and up to AS/1st year A-level Maths.
I am happy to meet either at the student's house or in a public space (for example, a coffee stop). I hope to be able to host lessons soon, but UCL are not currently allowing visitors into accommodation, due to COVID-19.
I am very happy to accept all levels of study and abilities, at no extra charge.
Please note that the first free session will be quite informal and will be used as a way for us to introduce ourselves. I will explain more about my teaching methods and hopefully learn more about you, your current ability, your goals/aims and some areas of weakness that we can begin to address in the coming sessions. Therefore, the full 45 minutes may not be required. No formal teaching will be provided in this session.
As his classmate of several years, Jake is always happy to help and delivers clear and concise explanations, thus demonstrating his thorough understanding of the subject. He is patient and a very able tutor.
