Recognising that each student is different with their own preferred learning methods, I like to focus on the individual needs of my student which is why my first lesson is usually introductory, aimed at understanding the student’s way of thinking, and formulating the appropriate strategy to improve their learning further. While I believe it is crucial to be demanding of effort, my manner of teaching is very calm and pragmatic - the pupil’s understanding is my top priority. I like to make my lessons enjoyable through informative activities designed to involve the student in the lesson, ensuring they understand the material. Finally, while I accept that different pupils have different learning styles, I think that the value of building relatable associations with the material is common to everyone so I tend to explain the principles through real-world applications.
I have been giving lessons for over a year to two students (aged 11 and 16) in maths and French. The lessons focused on deepening their understanding of subject content and exam technique; both tutees’ marks have improved by 2 grades since our working together. Our sessions have improved my ability to identify the exact gaps in my student’s knowledge while also finding alternative approaches to explaining principles. As well as this I have over 60 hours of experience as a classroom assistant to pupils aged 7-9 at Russian Gymnasium No.1, aiding in maths, Russian, geography and music. I built a close rapport with my pupils to establish mutual trust while also ensuring that the lessons ran smoothly. I was also responsible for the health and safety of the students and organising games in Russian for them to develop their communication skills.
I am a UCL Physics MSc student and I am offering Maths, Physics and French lessons at primary, secondary and GCSE level. My manner of teaching is patient and engaging in order to establish a trusting and respectful relationship between myself and the student, while using analogies and multiple methods of explanation to ensure their full understanding of the content.
