Experience

SEN English Literature Tutor | Heartlands Academy | 2017 - 2019

In my years at sixth form, I was recruited to teach students with special needs. I was tasked with teaching three year 9 students whom I met once a week. With them, I would go through the book they were reading in their classes, and then discuss what had happened or had a debate about what the author was attempting to put across to the reader. Afterwards, the students were given time to answer essay-style questions regarding the chapters they had read or about a particular topic that arose in the book which I marked and gave them feedback on.

Mentor | Heartlands Academy | 2018 - 2019

Though I wasn't teaching the students, this experience still provided me with understanding and gave me the chance to develop my empathetic skills through the students I would meet up with to talk about their troubles or experiences. This allowed me to build a rapport with the students and gave me the opportunity to help them gain confidence in not only their social life but also their academic life.
