I am a very organised and enthusiastic individual. I like to think that because I am a student myself, I can teach children relevant skills in a way which is enjoyable and clear. I would come to each lesson with a plan of what to practise - in order to hone their skills with relevance to their personal goals.
I am currently a student at the University of Bristol. I am studying English Literature so would feel comfortable teaching this subject to young pupils. I currently tutor an EAL child in English Language so have these skills as well.
Currently studying BA English Literature (2nd Year)
A levels: Economics - A*, English Literature - A, Mathematics - A
GCSEs: 10 A*s (including Maths and English) and 1 A
JACARI Charity Volunteering: Present
JACARI is a charity which gives EAL children from refugee or disadvantaged backgrounds the chance to improve their English. Once each week I plan and run my own English lesson for my tutee. Doing this has improved my organisational skills and has increased my confidence to plan and structure a project on my own.
Community Service at Wimbledon Library: 2015
On a weekly basis I volunteered to run an art class for the public (any ages welcome, but the attendees were mostly elderly people.) at Wimbledon Library. Each week I had to plan the session and engage with the people who came. This improved my communication and leadership skills immensely. The regulars enjoyed the class so much they wanted to continue to run it themselves after I left to go to university.
School Prefect: 2015
This experience taught me communication skills and increased my confidence. In addition to day to day responsibilities, the role involved a significant amount of contact with prospective parents. This allowed me to develop the skills necessary to sell a product (in this case, my school experience).
Volunteering to Work with Young Children: 2014
I undertook another community project whereby I worked with a local school in Wimbledon to help young children (aged 7-8) to create and perform a dance routine and play which would be presented to their parents at the end of the term. This was hugely rewarding as the performance was very well received by the parents, and it taught me how to work with any age, and how to work to a deadline and how to maintain a professional yet approachable attitude.
Work Experience – KASH Productions: 2013
KASH is a small film production company based in London. I produced, directed and edited my own short film documentary during my work experience here. Following this I now feel proficient in completing a creative project to a deadline, and working in a small team to produce a piece of work.
Wimbledon Championships: 2017
I worked at Wimbledon Championships this summer as a food service assistant in the Media Area. In this role I served customers and operated the till. This position taught me how to be professional in a high intensity workplace and improved my customer service skills.
The Windmill Café, Wimbledon: 2015
I worked at a local café, operating the coffee machines, manning the till and serving customers. This taught me valuable interpersonal skills.
The Fox and Grapes Pub: 2015
I developed my interpersonal skills further whilst working at a local gastro pub in Wimbledon Village. The experience taught me the value of being organised and prepared for busy periods and how important it is to keep calm under pressure and communicate clearly during those times. It greatly improved my understanding of work place etiquette and built my confidence.
Lacy Road Art Gallery: 2014
I used to attend art courses at this gallery when I was young. When I was too old for the courses I was asked to help run the courses for other children. This experience taught me leadership skills and patience as I worked with very young children and planned classes for them myself.
Skills and Interests:
I am a very keen tennis player, and often played for my school team, in addition to being in the 1st XI Hockey team and captain of the 2nd VII Netball team. I also competed at National Schools Athletics Championships. I am also a keen skier and snowboarder, and I play lacrosse at university.
I play the piano, the clarinet and the drums, having played the clarinet for six years in my school orchestra. I also won a composition competition during my time at school.
