I tailor my tutoring session to individual needs, according to your level of understanding and individual goals. Our sessions will have a strong focus on helping you to acquire the tools, techniques, and skills to become an independent researcher, writer and self-editor. We start by identifying any barriers to learning that you are experiencing and we work on building your confidence and skills to help you overcome these. We can work through any gaps in your understanding of relevant topics and readings. I can help you learn to interpret and analyse your assessment requirements, plan your time, and break tasks down into manageable chunks, enabling you to meet deadlines and produce work you feel proud of.
I have a PhD in political theory and a PGCE in Post-Compulsory Education and Training, and have taught at the same UK University in London since the mid-1990s. I have a BA in Social Sciences and taught social sciences for 7 years at Open University (1999-2007). I have taught and tutored over 1000 students from first year undergraduate to graduation, supervised over 100 undergraduate and MA dissertations (and one PhD dissertation to completion). I have also taught A-Level British Politics.
Areas of expertise include social sciences, humanities, politics, political philosophy and theory, feminism and gender studies, some areas of international relations, writing and study skills, dissertation supervision, academic pastoral support.
Bridget offered me an invaluable insight into gender studies and intersectionality whilst studying at university which has improved my academic understanding, guided my career and led to ongoing self developments and awareness. Her well structured, intuitive and carefully researched teaching methods work wonders and taught me in a way that was easy to digest and difficult to question. Having said this she encouraged us to question and analyse everything we read and this really helped develop my ability to think critically. Furthermore whilst completing my dissertation, Bridget supported me to improve my writing style in a way that was friendly and allowed me to make sense of my mistakes so I would not make them again. In addition to this Bridget also provided much needed pastoral care and inspiration in a professional, empathetic but constructive manner without which I may not have had the confidence in myself to complete this to the best of my ability. Eventually, thanks to Bridget, I received a First with Honours. I would not simply recommend Bridget as a tutor to another student, I would consider them fortunate to have the opportunity to benefit from her knowledge and excellence in teaching skills which precede her.
Bridget was one of my tutors at University of Westminster, she is very insightful, brilliant and such a lovely person!
