I structure my lessons around the essay stucture that I teach - taking each part at a time. Dependent on if it is a group or a solo session depends on the overall method of the lesson but most are structured the same - the main difference being that group sessions involve a lot more group mind mapping and discussions. I like to focus on one main area per session as this helps students to keep in focus - but this area is designated by the student - for instance if its the structural part of the essay then we spend the hour planning out the order in which it should be written - but then the subsections and the areas that they could write about etc.
each session is up to the student and the pace is set by them - I feel like this is important as we all have bad days. I am always on hand to proofread and give notes and comments - as its always useful to have an extra set of eyes on something.
I am a second year Undergraduate at Lincoln University and I have been tutoring in mathematics and science and test prep for five years now, with experience ranging from four to sixteen years old. In my free time I work with study groups and essay writing skills. As well as academic studies, I have taught piano and music for six years to children.
Over the years I have gained a range of experience in learning disabilities as well - such as autism, and dyslexia and have many strategies on how to get the student to understand the material themselves - and how to be able to explain it to others - not that they may want to - but that they can.
My previous students have received amazing results and I am so proud of them, and have gone on to achieve amazing things - one of my students from the beginning has just got into university. My students also learn to have pride in themselves within their learning and their achievements - I believe the small things matter and I celebrate those things with them. For most of my students within essay writing I teach them a formula that I have found to be effective at getting a minimum of a 2:1 (B grade) - if it is planned, researched and written to the structure - However many students go on to achieve top marks with firsts (A's) and a sense of pride in themselves because once they have learned the method it is all them
First lesson is an email consult which is offered free - I go over any assignments and get to know what we will be working towards. Because of this the first face-to-face or online session I offer at half price.
