Having been teaching for 20 years, I'm still loving it and always on the lookout for new talent. Whether you're a total beginner or a budding pro, I offer relaxed and fun lessons that encourage and inspire.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach cello from beginner to professional level. I also teach theory, up to Grade 5. I specialise in remedial techniques and am particularly interested in developing my students techniques, in a relaxed and ergo-dynamic way. I teach privately at home and currently teach cello for Croydon High School, where the famous cellist Jacqueline Du Pre attended.
Presently I have some space available for new students.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I have a BA (Credit in Performance) from the Royal Northern College of Music and a PG Diploma in Solo and Ensemble Performance (Distinction) from the Royal College of Music.
- How much do you charge?
£40 per hour
£20 per 30 mins
£30 per 45 mins
- Where do you teach?
I teach at my home in Hither Green SE6.
- When are you available?
My performing career is very flexible so I am available to teach on most weekdays up until 9pm.
I can also be available at weekends on request.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach students from age 6 onwards.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I am happy to prepare students for exams but am equally happy to just teach for enjoyment without any pressure. I prepare students for both Trinity Guildhall and ABRSM exams and auditions for music schools, music colleges and music courses.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
I love playing the cello which is why I am still doing it after 30 years! And I love sharing my experience and knowledge. Teaching is a passion of mine and I get a real kick out of helping a motivated budding musician develop their talent, whatever their age. I've had an amazingly diverse and interesting life with my 'other half' and if you want to too then come along and see what it's all about!
- What kind of experience do you have?
My teaching credits include 5 years with Berkshire Maestros (Music Centre and local LEA schools), Bexley Academy of Music and the Performing Arts, Blackheath High School, Prendergast School in Brockley. I also taught in Trinidad and Tobago for 3 years, coaching the Trinidad and Tobago Youth Orchestra, Saint Augustine Chamber Orchestra and giving masterclasses and outreach workshops with the Savannah Quartet.
Since returning to the UK in 2013 I have taught for Southwark Music Service (4 years), Forest School in Snaresbrook and currently I teach at Croydon High School for Girls.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
I am fully DBS checked.

I trained first at Wells Cathedral School with Ioan Davies (Fitzwilliam Quartet) and then with Hannah Roberts at the Royal Northern College of Music. I then completed my studies with Steven Doane and Margaret Moncrieff at the Royal College of Music.

Victoria has been a breath of fresh air for my 12 yr old who had been running low on motivation & confidence. I found her an enthusiastic teacher whose vibrant, open personality suits my girls perfectly. Her lessons have a fun atmosphere & they are both thriving. My 6 yr old absolutely loves it & Victoria manages to pitch the lesson perfectly for her age. I would highly recommend Victoria to anyone looking for a teacher who is friendly, positive & open, punctual, flexible & a good communicator.
I highly recommend Victoria as a cello teacher for anyone enquiring her suitability. Victoria has excellent communication skills, her flexibility and willingness to accommodate her students is extraordinary.
She has been teaching my daughter for over a year to which she attained a distinction at grade 1 in her practical cello exam. Her modern/classical approach to music is very refreshing and a great aid to learning.
From the very start of learning the cello with Victoria you benefit from her professional insight to develop as a cellist and a musician. She is a brilliant teacher. She listens to you and your playing and devises lessons that support your personal development. This means look forward to my lessons, and my love for the cello grows.
