I welcome enquiries about violin or viola lessons....I am a very patient and practical teacher with experience of teaching beginners and advanced pupils of all ages...I believe in the potential of each pupil to develop and improve at their own pace.

Violin and viola at all levels and ages, I can prepare pupils for exams, concerts and auditions
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I have a diploma (G.S.M.D performance), that means I have completed a performance based course at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London and was given a distinction which indicates a high level of performing ability
- How much do you charge?
I charge £40 per hour and £ 20 per half hour plus a fee for travel to the lesson depending on the distance and train fare, I can also teach for 45 minutes for £30
- Where do you teach?
I teach in Godalming, Haslemere, Guildford,Farnham, Petersfield, Woking, Dorking and Kingston and could travel to all places in Surrey, I also work in London and could teach anywhere in Greater London, I would accept teaching anywhere nearby to Surrey such as Reading, Croydon and Chichester
- When are you available?
I am free most days and evenings although I require flexibility as I have performing commitments as well, I have 6 weeks of work during June and July which I would have to work around in order to fulfill my performing and teaching commitments
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach pupils of age five upwards and would be happy to teach adults I am happy to teach beginners and all levels upwards from Grade 1 to Grade 8 and above
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I prepare students for associated board exams, Trinity board exams and diplomas, auditions

- What kind of experience do you have?
I was the leader of the National Youth Orchestra and taught in a school in Canada for about two years, more recently I have taught in Spain and in schools in Surrey and privately. I was educated at the Yehudi Menuhin School and have subsequently performed all over the world in London Chamber Orchestras such as the London Mozart Players and the English Chamber Orchestra and in professional String Quartets. I am currently teaching privately and also freelancing in orchestras. I have a sympathetic approach to teaching with clear and simple technical know how.I have made recordings in the Kreutzer Quartet and as a soloist, recently I peformed as a soloist with the London Festival Orchestra, touring all over South America and also with 'I maestri', performing the solo in Elgar's Violin Concerto in London.I have a website with further details of my career and video footage of my recent recital...sites.google.com/site/malcolmallisonviolin.I have lead orchestras such as the Birmingham Royal ballet, the New Queens Hall Orchestra and the English Touring Opera as well as principal Second Violin in the BBC Symphony Orchestra

- Where and with whom did you train?
I trained at the Yehudi Menuhin School with Margaret Norris and Mauricio Fuks.I also had master classes with Yehudi Menuhin and members of the Amadeus Quartet.I studied at McGill University and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama where I studied with David Takeno(Head of Strings at the Guildhall School), I have also had lessons with Igor Ozzim, Felix Andrievsky and Robert Mann(Julliard Quartet) and Michael Tree(Guaneri Quartet), I have had quartet lessons with The Borodin String Quartet as well as Emmanuel Hurwitz..I was leader of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain in 1989

I currently have a viola pupil who is doing grade 3 (age 12), I also have a nine year old perparing for grade three, I have recently prepared two pupils for grade 2
