Please call me Meg. I view student, parents and myself as a team of working towards students' s satisfaction and happiness in music. My aim is to inspire all of us, and we take our musical work seriously which gives them confidence.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach the violin. I can teach both in English and Japanese. I also play the piano, so we can play together, which is great fun!
I usually see students twice a week: from experience, students progress faster and more consistently this way. This means we are ready to progress to the next level each lesson and we never have issue of not practising between the lessons.
All of my students also learn Music Theory either with me or with a Theory teacher. I believe it is important for students to understand how the music is constructed.

- How much do you charge?
I charge £40 per hour.
These fees include my travel expenses.
- Where do you teach?
I teach mainly at my home during the week but if it works well with the schedule, I am happy to teach at my students' homes.
On the weekend in the mornings, I teach at my students' homes.
- When are you available?
I teach everyday including weekends and holidays so hopefully we can find a time which works for both of us.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I welcome all ages and levels.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
With my past/current students whom we started working together from age 5 twice a week, they obtained ABRSM Violin Grade 5, 6 and 8 and also Theory Grade 5 in Year 5.
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have worked with all kinds of levels of people from beginner to above Grade 8 level, especially in the age 5 - 15.
I have also worked as a teaching assistant to Prof. Rashkovsky (at the Royal College of Music) as part of the London Music Masters scheme.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
I have CRB Certificate.
- Where and with whom did you train?
I studied at the Royal College of Music, London with Prof.Itzhak Rashkovsky.
Before then, I studied at The Purcell School with Prof.Krzysztof Smietana.
- Tell me about some of your current students.
We organise concert twice a year, one in the summer and another one in the Christmas. It is especially fun having Christmas Concert followed by lots of lovely foods and sweets! I always encourage my students to have performance opportunities both inside and outside their school as I believe it is important for them to know how wonderful to share music with their family and friends and how much they love listening to them play. Most importantly, they all work hard towards the concert and it brings them to the next level of violinists.
• Masters Degree, BMus from Royal College of Music
• Full CRB (Enhanced 'Disclosure')
Ms Rolfe is violin teacher to my 8-year-old daughter, who she is currently tutoring to take her Grade 2 exam, having successfully helped her achieve a distinction at Grade 1.
Ms Rolfe is a consummate professional. She is always courteous, punctual, patient and caring. She is very passionate about her music, and this enthusiasm in achieving excellence has been transferred to my daughter. This bond has continued to inspire my daughter to want to continue with the violin and become as good as her teacher.
Megumi has been teaching my daughter the violin for almost a year and I can't recommend her highly enough. She is always professional, energetic, happy and patient. She keeps coming up with creative and new ideas that seem very specific to my daughter's needs and personality. Megumi is an exceptional person, I am very grateful to have her in our lives.
