Methodology

My teaching methods and resources are tailored to individual learning styles, including on-line tasks, group activities and individual support. For those students who say I am no good at that, I say, you just haven't learnt it yet! I can support you whether you are starting out at Entry Level or want to gain Level 2 qualifications.

Background

I have five years experience of supporting hundreds of adult learners to achieve their Functional Skills maths and English qualifications from Entry Level 3 to Level, who have moved on the university and further education courses. I have taught in a classroom setting, to individuals and on-line using Webex.

EMPLOYMENT HISTORY

Tutor – Learndirect from July 2016 to present

Delivering Functional Skills Maths and English from Entry Level 3 to Level 2 to adult learners. Using a variety of learning resources and strategies to support individual learning needs. Monitor their development by carrying out session and progress reviews, marking mock exams and setting appropriate targets. Booking exams.

Delivering work skills courses. Including Employability with confidence building, communication skills, team building as well as CV writing and interview skills. Also, Customer Service skills and Business Administration.

Monitoring attendance and taking appropriate action in line with the organisations Attendance Policy.

Undertake administrative duties to ensure all learners’ records are up to date and tasks to ensure that deadlines are met to meet quality, audit, funding and accreditation requirements. Participate in observations for training and development.

GCSE Maths Tutor – Learndirect from August 2016 to July 2016

Delivering maths to progress learners through the GCSE programme. Using a variety of learning resources to enable differentiation to support individual learning needs. Monitor learners’ development by marking end of term assessments then give feedback to support their revision plans. Deliver one to one support to any learners who have additional learning needs. Mark mock papers, followed by delivering revision sessions tailored from outcomes.

Monitoring attendance and taking appropriate action in line with the organisations Attendance Policy.

Inducting learners, (Childcare apprentices), to the programme and completing the appropriate paperwork.

Undertake administrative duties to ensure all learners’ records are up to date and tasks to ensure that deadlines are met to meet quality, audit and accreditation requirements. Participate in observations for training and development.


Learning Support Practitioner - Learndirect from January 2014 to August 2016

Supporting learners to gain their Level 1 and Level 2 Functional Skills Maths and English to support their apprenticeships. Engaging and motivating them to complete their online courses over the telephone, messaging and using virtual classroom systems (Webex). Conducting progress reviews with by delivering subject support and agree targets with them to move forward with their learning and in line with contractual requirements. Also hosting and marking Speaking, Listening and Communication assessments, in line with the exam body’s criteria. Marking mock tests for maths and English and giving feedback to the learners. Undertaking administration tasks using a variety of resources and systems including Customer Relationship Management, (CRM). Dealing with inbound calls in a professional manner, using customer focussed criteria.

Home Care Worker (Part time) – Homeinstead from September 2013 to January 2014

Supporting vulnerable clients in their home with cooking, cleaning and personal care. Reminding them to take medication. Assisting with budget management. Escorting them on shopping, doctors and other trips out.


Classroom Tutor Support and Exam Invigilation. (Part time) – Workers Education Association from March 2012 to January 2014

Providing tutor support to assist with learners undertaking Entry Level Maths Functional Skills and Entry Level to Level 2, English for speakers of other languages (ESOL). This included providing learning support to small groups and individuals specific to their needs. I also invigilated exams in line with the awarding bodies regulations.


Branch Manager – UNISON, Leicestershire County Council from March 2004 to March 2012

Overall responsibility for the running of a large team of stewards, this included supporting them in their role of providing support to members of staff on employment issues. This also included delivering formal training on issues related to employment law and local employment policies. This also involved preparing the lesson plans and resources. I also managed a small team of administrative staff. Responsibility for the administration and chairing of committee meetings.

Before 2004 I have also worked for Local Government as an administrator in different departments for 8 years and prior to that have experience in working in a large supermarket, clothes shop and dry cleaners.
