What I have learnt through my career as an Actor and from the five years working on the Audition Panels is that you need to show people who you are -through your work - not somebody you think they want to see. My main goals is helping you find your voice as an Actor. You are a vessel for these characters and stories and how you connect is what makes your artistic voice unique. I won't simply direct you and tell you how I think your pieces should be done. My role is to create a safe, inspiring space where you feel at your most free & confident, then fuel your imagination introducing you to techniques that will help you navigate your way through the speech organically. So it feels like yours and no one else's. After all, casting director’s or drama schools Or whoever you are auditioning for - want to see you! They want your interpretation and connection to a piece. YOUR portrayal of these characters. This means when it comes to being redirected if you get a recall audition in any form, you will be able to manoeuvre, change and allow other other ideas to flow through you. I want to you to trust your instincts. Freedom to explore is key.
I approach every Acting student's session completely individual to your needs. That's my job. Helping you find where your unique voice lies. I don't want you to dip your toes in - neither do drama schools! I want you to dive in. Being brave is going to move you forward - and I want to help you find that.
Since graduating from Drama Centre, I have worked extensively in Theatre and Screen. My debut role was in Much Ado About Nothing, Wyndhams Theatre alongside Catherine Tate & David Tennant. This year I transferred to the West End in the lead role of Kevin Elyot’s play Coming Clean at the Trafalgar Studios. This was the third sell out run. Other credits include A Very Very Very Dark Matter alongside Jim Broadbent at the Bridge Theatre, Coming Clean, Trafalgar Studios, Savage at the Arts theatre where I was nominated Best Actor at the offies. I have also performed at many other venues such as the Park Theatre, Finborough Theatre, King's Head Theatre & The Hope Theatre.
I have recently finished filming feature film The Last Letter From Your Lover which will air on Netflix in 2021 and BBC drama The North Water alongside Colin Farrell and Jack O'Connell, which will also air in 2021. I am also currently appearing in the latest BT Broadband Commercial. Other credits include: Sherlock, Harry Potter & The Goblet of Fire and The Trial of Christine Keeler.
I also write. My short play No More Doughnuts was selected as part of the Make it Beautiful Festival which will be performed in London on January 11th, which I will direct. My Comedy Pilot reached the semi finals for BBC Comedy Writer's Room in 2019 and my piece Art or Suffering is being produced for the Lost Souls Podcast.
I have sat on the drama school audition panels for six years on the BA Acting, MA Acting and Foundation courses. I have taught professional preparation to third year BA Students helping them prepare on life outside of drama school as an Actor. I also designed the Drama Centre summer course on Audition preparation for drama schools in 2019.
I am extremely passionate about championing young actors from all backgrounds and helping them find their unique voice. I feel strongly about actors being taught by teachers that are actually working and in the midst of their own careers - this way we can bring to students a very current experience on a constantly changing industry and also a passion and that is very Alive! Because of this I started coaching students privately four years ago and when the pandemic hit I designed a website called The Audition Room ((concealed information) and started taking everything online. I have moved my main audition prep monthly course online with the focus of providing a community for those auditioning for drama school. I have focused a lot of my attention on helping auditionees transition to a self taped online audition rather than in the room, which most schools are adopting.
I have written articles that have been published in The Stage on various subjects including Auditioning via Self tape, revisiting a West End role as an Actor and I also run a Blog through the Audition Room website.
Who are my students?
My students range from young Actors Auditioning for drama school to professional Actors looking to improve their skills on their screen, text or self tape work. I also give practical career guidance and mentorship on anything from Finding agents to advancing their career to Actor’s looking for their next steps. Having been through it all myself for twenty years (and still going through it daily!) I can offer very relevant advice on what an Actor can do to create career movement and come up with a plan of action in a very competitive sometimes overwhelming industry. This industry can be very tough and sometimes people need to re-find their path and sometimes, re-ignite their passion!
In teaching acting - helping YOU find your connection to a character and to text rather than merely my perception. I will help ignite your imagination, giving you simple tools to find true depth in whatever material you are working on. Also- Improving an Actor’s confidence in a SAFE space which I call an actor’s playground - is one of the best ways to be free to create! This is my goal. ‘Leaving yourself alone’ Is the key to freedom.
Also, due to my extensive experience on the audition panels, those auditioning for drama are a large part of my teaching.
This year my students got offered places at various schools including LAMDA, Drama Studio, Oxford, East 15 and Bristol.
I require 24 hours notice for any cancellation of full fee will be required.
I charge £50 per hour for professional Actors looking for coaching.
During the week I spent working with Lee on my Drama School Audition Technique I learnt and developed so much as an actor. Instead of being directed, Lee helps you experiment and find new ideas, therefore keeping your work organic. The great thing about Lee is that he works as an actor and knows what it takes to be successful. I really enjoyed my week working with Lee and gained so much knowledge. If I ever need help with any auditions Lee is the person I would go to.
Encouraging and thorough, sessions with Lee leave you feeling empowered about your work and the drama school audition process. His experience as a panellist and facilitator for actors hoping to attend drama school as well as working with actors currently in training perfectly equips him to help you with your speeches and self-preparation to make your first steps into the industry. That coupled with his honesty about life as a professional actor and creative make Lee the perfect tutor. Check him out, you will not regret it!
I’ve seen Lee in everything he has done on stage and TV and am blown away each time how he embodies the characters he is portraying. I’ve had a couple of lessons from Lee and he is brilliant. Highly recommend him.
Lee is a wonderful teacher and tutor, from the moment I started working with Lee I felt comfortable, inspired and valued. Lee brings his full attention and energy into working with you, I especially love how it feels I’m working with him to find something new, rather than just being directed. Lee always knows what to say to bring the best out of you. Thank you so much Lee.
I contacted Lee after watching his Q and A session, hosted by The Kings Head for advice on auditioning for MA courses and furthering also my career.
Lee is a great teacher and mentor, with a positive and inspiring personality. His knowledge of the industry, acting technique and drama school are invaluable. I would highly recommend anyone looking for a tutor for auditioning technique, or wanting general career advice to contact him.
Lee is extremely supportive and his coaching has been essential to preparing me for auditions. Every session is tailored to you and he has helped me create some of my best work. He has the ability to create a relaxed environment whilst ensuring that no detail is missed. I leave every session feeling motivated and more confident. I would recommend him to anyone looking to unlock their acting ability.
