About the lesson
I'm one of those teachers who still believe that really valuable learning has to be enjoyable and fun.
I teach English language and literature from basic literacy through all Key Stages, including GCSE level, AS and A level, and English for Academic Purposes (EAP) for undergraduates wishing to improve their assignment and essay-writing skills.
I also give tuition in preparation for 11+ School Entrance examinations, including verbal and non-verbal reasoning, maths and, of course, English.
I am a friendly, supportive, dedicated and highly experienced tutor with an extensive knowledge of my subject, coupled with a talent for helping students to appreciate and understand the historical context of literature along with all that 'technical' stuff about rhyme patterns, alliteration and metaphor. Basically, whether you're talking Shakespeare or Blake, Of Mice and Men or The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, I bring it to life.
My teaching is relaxed, informal and enjoyable, but most importantly it gets results, with fantastic grades for a number of my GCSE students over the last academic year.
Let me help you achieve your real full potential.
- Academic tutoring
I have been teaching now for the best part of twenty years, to all ages of students from all kinds of backgrounds and in a whole range of settings, from schools, colleges, community centres and libraries to their own homes, so I guess I must have helped hundreds of students!
Over this past year I have had some memorable results; two of my students successfully passed their 11+ entrance exams to go to the school of their choice, and almost all of my GCSE students got grades above those which they had been predicted, but this year's star was Lisa, who came to me upset and disappointed - and also pretty unsure of exactly what to do for the best - after she had been predicted "a low C at best in English" by her school. After assessing her ability, and with her assurance that she would give her best efforts to improve that forecasted result, I told her not to worry and that everything would turn out absolutely fine.
Twelve weeks later, after one hour's private tuition in English each week and a lot of hard work on her part, she gained an A grade in Language and an A* in Literature.
I hope I can help you engineer a similar success story for yourself - I'm sure that I can.
he was giving private tuition to my brother for English and he was also helped me and my sister with ucas. He's friendly, trustworthy and helpful and respectve person.
