I believe that engaging and encouraging are the essential aspects of the teaching, which help the learners develop their own personal interests in the subject. My goal in teaching Mandarin is for students to enjoy language learning and make the Mandarin learning become a life-long skill, rather than only an academic achievement.
Meanwhile, as my own personality is enthusiastic, passionate and lively, I intend to create a fun learning environment rather than a strict teaching. As my strong Mandarin teaching academic background and work experiences, I also believe that there are various and flexible ways for the language learning, it all depends on the difference of the learners, therefore all my lessons are the learners centred, all based on their own levels.
During the study time in UCL, I quickly realised that the importance of assessing and recording learners' progress. My assignment was focused on discussing the effective way of the AfL, formative and summative assessment in use in language classroom. Including using summative assessment in a formative way, questioning skills, efficient way of AfL etc, which has developed my understanding monitoring the work and progress of learners', furthermore, through monitoring learners’ progress, especially with those different level students, which enable to reflect my teaching and giving feedback to students effectively.
I achieved two first class degrees in Chinese Language and Literature as well as in Psychology and am currently completing a PGCE in Mandarin and EAL at UCL IOE in order to receive Qualified Teacher Status in the UK.
I am a very experienced Mandarin tutor and I have worked in a grammar school for 4 years in London. Therefore I am very familiar with the GCSE A level and IB mandarin course. Before I came to England, I used to teach adults in both Mandarin oral and writing in university, especially business related course. My subject was Chinese language and literacy and I graduate from one of the best teacher training university in China, which developed my subject knowledge fully.
In order to maintaining professional skills, from 2013 to 2019, I participated in the Annual IOE Chinese Teaching Conference four times, attending workshops focusing on trends in teaching Chinese in England. These gave me many ideas to develop Mandarin teaching, especially online teaching.
