I usually teach one-to-one here, but to be honest it is better if you can find a partner, so you can share costs, and maybe driving; it is also more fun. Mum is welcome to stay here quietly, and use our Wifi, or go to a nearby mall. I work hard and for every lesson I give notes and always a homework on a worksheet. Students can use texts, Viber, email or Facebook to ask for help between lessons. I expect every student to get a top grade, or I might sulk.
I have degrees in Chemistry & Biology, but after 40 years pushing my students into Medical School, now mostly needing 3 A* grades at A Level, I have branched into other subjects: Maths, French & German. I can do all these and Physics at GCSE also, of course, or even lower. I can do General Science too. I have to work at home to have my resources available, but if necessary can drive a few miles from Ribbleton.
I ask lower rates for levels below A level, or for helping pupils with Asperger's Syndrome or Dyslexia.
Curriculum Vitae / Resume
Dr. Julian Andrew Gudgeon DoB: 5 April 46
Greenlands, Ribbleton, Preston PR2 6BB
Married to Leonila, 2 children Catherine, 17 & Christopher, 15.
1964-68: Keele University, Double Honours B.Sc. Class II.i Chemistry & Biology
1968-71: Liverpool University Ph.D. in Biochemistry, on Fungal Biosynthesis
1971-1995: Head of Science at Queen Mary School Lytham, a leading UK
Independent School of 800 pupils.
1995 2018 Much private teaching, all subjects & levels, and travel.
In June 2007, I became Professor of Organic Chemistry at Ateneo University, 2nd year degree chemistry. March 2008, I was voted best professor in the entire university. 2008-2010 taught poor children Maths, English, all sciences, French & German.
Subjects: Main strength: Degree, Advanced or IB Level Chemistry, where most of my students always achieved A or A* grades and entries to Oxford & Cambridge for Medicine or Natural Sciences.
I like to teach Maths to every student, to strengthen their mind for all subjects.
I use my computers a great deal, to produce worksheets and homework sheets, using mostly WORD and some powerful Chemistry Programs; also Excel & Powerpoint. My lessons are non-stop teaching, never dictating notes, or asking pupils to copy things out. Nobody ever leaves a lesson without notes and written homework. I never say “Just read your notes”.
Extracurricular Activities: Organised most of the school’s voluntary work, debates and expeditions. Spent every summer holiday and many other school vacations taking groups of students all over Europe doing voluntary work or cycle-camping.
Although very successful in my research, I have focused my career on effective methods of teaching, especially to poor children, and advanced organic chemistry.
I also help dyslexic children or those with Aspergers Syndrome.
Andy Gudgeon is the best teacher I have ever met.
He was first recommended to me by a family friend when I needed support with my A-Level Chemistry studies. He has also tutored both of my younger siblings and many of my friends in a variety of subjects. Andy has a unique ability to turn the most difficult topics into easy to understand snippets of information.
Without Andy Gudgeon’s tutelage I would not be where I am today-a PhD chemist running a research lab for a World leading paints and coatings company.
I would highly recommend Andy Gudgeon as a tutor.
Andy tutored me in Chemistry for both GCSE and A Level. His tuition turned a previously tricky subject into one which I found very easy - resulting in Chemistry A grades and a place at Medical School. I thoroughly recommend him as a tutor - he is incredibly knowledgeable and enthusiastic about his subject and is fantastic at providing individualised support and coaching. He inspired me to believe in myself and aim high and I’m very grateful to him for that.
