I offer 30 minute lessons for young children and/or beginners on the trumpet, trombone and other brass instruments. I also offer performance coaching and recital preparation for those on a degree or preparing for university.
As a tutor, I am approachable, understanding and patient. Most of my pupils find it beneficial to start having lessons in their own home, and I am more than happy to travel to you. I also teach at York Saint John University, so that is an option too.
Cancellation policy is 24hours.
£25 per hour
£15 per half hour for beginners.
I am a graduate of the University of York, where I studied music. Since studying music at university I have undertaken a freelance career as a trombonist, trumpeter, private music tutor and workshop leader. I am passionate about music, educating children, and I have a variety of experience working with young children from primary to university students, as well as pupils with SENs, and those children on the Autistic spectrum.
I also have close ties with the Doncaster Music Service, who I have worked for covering staff illness on occasion as a brass teacher.
I also have taught whole class workshops to introduce students to the recorder, ukulele, kazoo, Samba and African drumming. These pupils then would decide whether they wanted to take music to the next level. I am an accomplished and professional trombone player and I have a solid working knowledge of the instrument, its capabilities and its construction, which I feel is important when wanting to study the instrument to a high level. Further to this, I have a sound knowledge of all brass instruments, and common malfunctions with them, and would be able and confident to repair at whilst still teaching. As a freelance musician, I regularly work with a lot of different people, meaning I have to quickly adjust to the way certain people work. In regards to performance, I have a variety of many styles of playing, for example working in a theatre pit orchestra compared with the freelance world of deputising/subbing for another player at short notice. This means I have to have full concentration in all situations, be professional and have an excellent sight-reading ability. I have played with hundreds of different people and played in various venues across the country. I have also taken part in the worldwide festival ‘The Women of the World’ - and played in the world’s only all-female orchestra under the baton of Sue Perkins and other famous personalities. I have also backed singers such as Bonnie Langford and Sister Sledge in these events.
