The thing that parents and students must realise when approaching studies for GCSEs, is that the most important thing is the exam. I have seen very clever and talented students who love the subject do very poorly on the exam because they did not keep the exam in mind when studying. Therefore my approach in these lessons will always be centered around the exam. For example, if we are studying the text of 'An Inspector Calls,' I will always look at past exam papers before our lesson and pick out what questions have come up on this book. This will allow your child to read and study with those exam questions in the back of their mind leading to much better results.
For younger students, I always try and be more interactive. My goal is to make them enjoy my lessons rather than dread them while also getting better at the subject. Generally, I find most students don't like English at school and so this is even more important. This means that before going into Highschool, they have a good foundation and are ready to excel in their more important exams as they go through life.
As someone who has recently left the lower education system, the struggles and difficulties are still fresh in my mind. This makes me more able to empathise with students going through similar situations and better help them achieve their goals and more. I am currently studying Law and King's College London and will be entering my final year in September. Over the summer, my availability is extensive and even once the academic year begins, my timetable will still allow me to continue to tutor your child throughout the year.
I have tutored dozens of students ranging from the age of 7 to 18 and have even tutored large groups of 6 students meaning I am more than capable to teach multiple siblings in one session. I also have my own car and so travel is easier for me which results in always being on time to our agreed session.
I am an older brother to 3 siblings and have tutored and mentored them for years and so education is more than just a part time job, but I am constantly engaged in it at home.
Within 5 miles travel is included in the hourly rate, if further than this then may add a small charge to cover the cost (approx. £5 depending on distance)

Private Tutor, Self-employed (Feb17–Present)
I currently work as a part-time private tutor in English Literature and English Language. This involves working on exam preparation as well as teaching new material. Although all my students are set to do the same exam, their ages vary massively as many are in the retaking process. This naturally presents challenges in adapting teaching style for the entire class. The work has been instrumental in developing my ability to articulate myself as well as remain patient and empathetic when students struggle with a certain concept or topic.
Tutor, City Educators Ltd. (Oct16-Feb17)
Prior to my current role as a private tutor, I worked as part of a centre during my weekends. The responsibilities were similar to my current work, except the class size was larger and generally the students were much less inclined leading to more discipline work than I experience as a private tutor.
