- What kind of experience do you have?
I have worked as an assistant for my professors and have been teaching on my own for the last 6 years. I have led workshops with a range of schools, including Thomas's Day Schools, Cardinal Vaughan School, Marlborough College and schools in Guernsey. I have played with various professional orchestras such as Royal Opera House orchestra, BBC Concert orchestra, Academy of St Martin-in-the-Fields and regularly perform with London Sinfonietta and Southbank Sinfonia and I recently took part in the Channel4 series 'Don't Stop the Music'. I have also collaborated with popular music artists such as Taio Cruz, Noah and the Whale, Laura Marling, Elton John and have joined the ABC and Spandau Ballet for their UK tours. I also carry on performing solo in recital series around the UK and Latvia. I started playing the violin when I was 6, later on joined by piano at the age of 7. Since the very beginning of my studies I have played in ensembles and performed as a soloist on regular basis in Germany, Czech Republic, Poland, Sweden, Norway, Estonia, UK as well as Russia and USA. Over the years I have taken part in multiple young musician's competitions such as 'Talent for Latvia' in which I have won the 1st prize 3 years running and a Grand Prix in 2002. In 2011 I won The Bach Solo Prize held in Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance and performed S.Prokofiev's Violin Concerto No.2 solo with Southbank Sinfonia twice in 2013. I have also performed with great conductors such as Sir Simon Rattle, Vladimir Ashkenazy and Sir Colin Davis. I have worked with Welsh National Opera, London Sinfonietta and am currently working with BBC Concert Orchestra.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
- Where and with whom did you train?
I was trained in Latvia until the age of 18. I started playing the violin at the age of 6 in a music school with Maija Ozola, and at the age of 13 I was transferred to a boarding school, similar to the Menuhin School, studying with Ludmila Girska. During that time I started having consultation lessons with a professor in London - Igor Petrushevski, and after graduation I was offered a place at the Royal Academy of Music where I continued to study with him for the next 4 years. For my postgraduate I decided to go to Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance and was awarded a full scholarship to study for a Postgraduate Diploma.
- Tell me about some of your current students.
I currently teach a brother and sister (9 and 7 years old) - they both play piano. The boy has been playing for 2 years now and is very bright and talented, he already at this age understands that one needs to practice to progress and knows exactly how to do it, he is currently preparing for his Grade 5 exam having received a Distinction at all his previous Grade exams. His sister is taking after her brother and is always wonderfully prepared and enthusiastic in her lessons. Another one of my students is an 8 year old girl whom I teach the violin and she is progressing in leaps and bounds - she loves theory and sight-reads very fast for her age. Having received Distinction in her Grades 1&2, she is about to do her Grade 3 now, and I expect the best results! I also teach 2 adult students, which is a very different experience and very educational for me too I find - we have a lot of great fun together!
