About the lesson
Currently a student at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, I am experiencing teaching at the highest level. I feel very passionately about passing this on, and will always endeavour to get the best out of my students.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach piano, oboe, cor anglais, and music theory to Grade 8 as well as the art of oboe reedmaking. I am also available to teach English, French and German to GCSE level.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I have received distinction at Grade 8 level for both piano and oboe, as well as merit in Grade 5 singing. I am now in my second year on a BMus course at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama with a scholarship.
I took GCSEs in Music, Art, English Literature, English Language, French, German, History, R.E., Maths, and Combined Sciences all with A*/A grade results. At A level I got A grades in Music and English Literature and B at German AS level.
- How much do you charge?
I will charge a reduced fee of £15 per hour for one trial lesson per pupil. I do not take group lessons for instrumental tuition but will consider very small groups of two or three children for academic subjects with some discount.
- Where do you teach?
I will teach mainly from home but will consider travel to surrounding areas in Central London such as Barbican, Moorgate, Angel, Whitechapel, Spitalfields, Shoreditch and so on. I would accept travelling slightly further out providing that travel/time costs were sufficiently compensated.
- When are you available?
I am available seven days a week, though I usually visit my family during main school holidays in summer and winter.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I will give music lessons to people of any age, but for the academic subjects I would prefer to teach people under the age of 16.
- What kind of experience do you have?
Whilst at Chetham's School of Music I took part in outreach work to introduce local children of all ages to the oboe and I found this to be very rewarding. I also have extensive performing experience in solo, orchestral and chamber music capacities.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
I do not have a CRB check.
- Where and with whom did you train?
I attended Chetham's School of Music in Manchester for sixth form, where I learnt oboe with Rachael Clegg (Manchester Camerata) and Val Taylor as well as piano with Jonathan Middleton. I am currently learning at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama with Alison Teale (BBC Symphony Orchestra) and reedmaking with Steve Hudson.
