About Kosmas
I am educated to PhD level and I am an active scientist in IT and Neuro-engineering. I currently use state of the art computing and engineering approaches to decipher how the central nervous system works in health and disease. I have been teaching privately for a few years in Europe, and I have recently relocated to U.K.
I am very passionate about computing and programming. I originally started in assembly language and later moved to high-level languages, such as Matlab and Python. I am part of Software Carpentry, where we teach basic programming skills (Python, Github, etc.) to MSc and PhD students.
My teaching is, first of all, personalized. It is very important to understand where the student currently is, and where he wants to be within a realistic timeframe. After establishing this, we will make a lesson schedule and we will set specific time points at which we will review the effectiveness of the teaching.
In my sessions, I use Live Coding. This means that the student is programming his own code by watching me programming on my own laptop. The advantage of this technique is that by the end of the session, the student will have worked in his own laptop, and made his own code that can review later on. This technique is used extensively in computing workshops from e.g. The Software Carpentry and its effectiveness is well-known.
I have been part of multiple world-class universities (University College London, Osaka University, etc.) as well as research institutes (RIKEN Institute) in Greece, Germany, Netherlands, and Japan. I am very well-versed into academia and I would also be happy to provide advice on career choices and further education.

Kosmas helped me with my personal statements for university. He is very good at providing constructive criticism; he was able to pinpoint my weaknesses, and provide advice on how to better them.
I have had other tutors before, who have tried to change the tone of my writing to the point where it did not really feel like my own writing. However, Kosmas really understood the points I was trying to get across. He simply helped me express them in a more organised, concise manner, which was something I had greatly struggled with in the past.
I am highly satisfied with the final version of my personal statements; I really feel that they are the best they can be because of Kosmas!Kosmas was my tutor for MATLAB courses. He helped me a lot, providing also exercises and being flexible regarding the timetable. He is also a nice person. I would suggest Kosmas for MATLAB courses.
Kosmas tutored me for about 3 months in Matlab for my university project. I had no background in programming, so his help was much appreciated. He explained the concepts well and gave me homework exercises.
Dr. Kosmas helped me revise my thesis on Neuroscience. He gave me very good comments that improved the quality of my thesis.
Kosmas taught me how to use the computer, safely browse the internet, but also basic aspects of programming!
He was a fantastic, patient tutor that really took the time to explain the concepts that seemed so complicated initially.View more recommendations
