About Maxim

Bachelor's Degree in Teaching Russian as a Foreign Language. Udmurt State University 2021
Bachelor's Degree in Economics. Udmurt State University 2020
Private English Tutor in Russia since 2014
Teacher of Russian as a Foreign Language since 2017

I am a native Russian speaker. In 2017, I already spoke good English, my English teacher at the university asked me to help her teach Russian to non-Russian speaking international students. I didn't know how to teach Russian because I speak it as a native speaker, but long preparation for classes and advice from my teacher helped me a lot and I started teaching it with success. I wanted to develop further in this direction. I went on to study to become a teacher of Russian as a foreign language. Ever since my graduation in 2021, I’ve been working with students from all over the world. I have students from the USA, England, Austria, France, Canada, Germany, Switzerland and Australia.

So, if you want to learn Russian, my teaching experience and knowledge will help you and I guarantee that you will improve your Russian!

I use a structured approach to language learning. We will use a textbook and workbook, and I also like to combine different parts of language learning, such as grammar and speaking. This makes the learning process more efficient and interesting. For example, we can do a grammar exercise and then I will ask you questions in Russian so that you use the rules that we have learned in your answers. In this way, we combine grammar and speaking.

By taking my courses, you will learn:

Elementary (A1): Introduce yourself in Russian, discuss food, travel and work

Pre-intermediate (A2): Talk about health, express opinions and emotions

Intermediate (B1): Talk about dreams, plans, ambitions. Discuss and present arguments

Upper-intermediate (B2): Speak fluently on almost any topic, enjoy music and books in Russian

Advanced (C1): Speak fluently on any topic including economics, medicine and biology

Russian language by purpose: Conversation course, traveling, preparation for a interview, immersion in Russian culture

Other courses are available upon request.

  • 1) Do you speak this language fluently because of your origins or because a teacher inspired you to learn?

I speak Russian fluently because it's my native language, but my passion for teaching and sharing it with others was sparked by the amazing teachers who inspired me along the way. Their dedication showed me how transformative a great teacher can be, and it's why I'm so committed to helping my students master Russian. I believe a supportive, inspiring teacher is key to unlocking the beauty of any language!
  • 2) Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?

Russian culture is full of iconic figures-from legendary heroes in folklore to characters in classic literature and modern films. One character that stands out to me is Yura Borisov from the Oscar-winning film Anora. On the surface, he might seem like a tough guy, but deep down, he's incredibly kind-hearted and always ready to help others without expecting anything in return. To me, he embodies the warmth, resilience, and depth of Russian culture, making him a perfect representative
  • 3) Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or behaviour in the language that you particularly like?

One of my favorite Russian traditions is Maslenitsa, a week-long celebration at the end of February or March to welcome spring. During this time, we enjoy delicious pancakes topped with jam, sour cream, honey, fish, or caviar-it's a feast for the senses! The final day, Forgiveness Sunday, is especially meaningful. We ask for forgiveness from those we've wronged, strengthening our relationships. The week ends with burning a straw effigy to bid farewell to winter. It's a beautiful mix of fun, food, and heartfelt connection that I love sharing with my students.
  • 4) Why does speaking this language matter to you?

As a teacher, I feel privileged to share one of the world's most fascinating and challenging languages with my students. Helping students discover the richness of Russian culture and language is deeply rewarding, and it's why I'm so passionate about what I do.
  • 5) What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?

The biggest challenge for learners is often Russian grammar, especially cases and their endings, which don't exist in English. Choosing the right words and using them correctly can also feel tricky at first. The key is to take it step by step: learn the meanings of words, practice grammar in context, and read or listen to real-life examples. With patience, practice, and guidance, these challenges become opportunities to grow. I'm here to help you navigate it all and make the process enjoyable!
  • 6) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.

When I was in school, my class was supposed to go to the theater, but I really didn't want to go. So, I made up a story and told my teacher that my family couldn't afford the ticket. Later, at a parent-teacher meeting, my teacher asked my mom about our "financial troubles." My mom was mortified, and that evening, I got a serious talking-to! That experience taught me a big lesson: honesty is always the best policy.
  • 7) How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?

I travel across Russia regularly, and each trip is a chance to dive deeper into the language and culture. Every region has its own unique words, phrases, and traditions, which keeps my knowledge fresh and exciting. Exploring these differences not only enriches my understanding but also inspires me to share authentic, real-world insights with my students. It's like bringing a piece of Russia to our lessons!
  • 8) What makes you a Superprof in language?

I'm a native Russian speaker with a teaching certification in the language, but what truly sets me apart is my dedication to my students. I'm always evolving my teaching style to meet their unique needs and learning preferences. I love connecting with new students, understanding how they learn best, and tailoring my approach to help them succeed. Moreover, I study other languages, which allows me to see the lessons from the student's point of view and better understand the problems a student may face. I'm committed to helping every student reach their full potential while enjoying the journey of learning Russian.
