About Felix
For me, music is a game in the best sense; A space to explore, create, and enjoy. I bring that spirit into every lesson to keep students playing!
I am a professional composer and recorder player with advanced degrees from the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp (MA), and the Royal College of Music in Stockholm (BA). I performed before the Brussels Philharmonic for the King of Belgium, and was commissioned by festivals like the festival of Avignon.
Having recently graduated, and returning to New York after 12 years in Europe, I see teaching not only as a way to share my tips and tricks, but also as an opportunity to rethink and research my own craft.
Whether you’re a complete beginner or an advanced amateur, my goal is to provide a clear path for growth: combining a strong technical foundation with the creative tools to develop your own unique musical voice.

I believe music should feel alive and personal from the very first lesson. Whether you’re playing your first notes on the recorder, or exploring advanced composition techniques, my lessons are time segmented, to keep the focus and momentum.
My approach combines practical skill-building (breathing, fingering, harmony, counterpoint) with creative exploration, helping students develop the technical mastery to go far in their craft, and the artistic depth to grow their own unique musical voice.

About Instruments & Materials:
To get the most out of our lessons, it’s important that students have their own instruments to practice on. I have a small selection of beginner to intermediate plastic recorders available for use, but I recommend that each student purchase a recorder with ~baroque fingering~ for their own practice.
While Yamaha makes excellent pedagogical instruments, I especially recommend the models designed by Doris Kulossa. They have a more “recorder‑istic” character, with a sweeter sound, a stable low register, and more flexibility for dynamic playing.
These instruments are affordable and well‑suited for serious beginners:
Soprano (best for little fingers): around $35
Alto: around $50
As you progress, I can guide you toward selecting and investing in a quality wooden instrument, which is essential for more advanced playing.
(All lesson fees are for instruction only; the purchase of instruments is separate.)
