About Clare
This is why I love to teach: Testimonial: Clare has been an invaluable support to me whilst I have been studying for functional skills certificates in both English and Maths with City Skills in 2024/2025. Clare's techniques for putting you at ease whilst breaking down complex information and simplifying things in a learning environment are incredibly effective. As a mature learner it can be very daunting to find oneself in this situation after many years without any formal education. Clare really puts you at ease with her infectious, self-deprecating humour and helps to make that situation much less stressful, showing real empathy and unending patience. Clare's inspiring and enthusiastic encouragement is such a credit to her and indeed the learning profession. I know that she has also given up her own personal time for both myself and other students to help get us over the line or if we have needed extra support which is so commendable and a typical example of her passion for her vocation. It is difficult to summarise the level of positive impact Clare has had on me personally in just a few sentences but suffice to say she is one of those people in life you may only interact with for a brief period but whose impact resonates long after her support has finished. A scaffolding approach with bespoke lessons according to the student's learning styles and preferences. The lessons last typically 45 minutes to 1.5 hours using interactive resources for students 16+ on a one-to-one basis. The emphasis is on embedding learning and building confidence in ability with alternative approaches to learning.
