About Lauren
I’m a qualified English Lecturer based in Macclesfield, with a PGCE, QTS, and over a decade of experience supporting learners from KS3 to KS5, as well as adults working towards Functional Skills qualifications. My approach is rooted in empathy, trauma-informed practice, and a deep belief that every learner deserves to feel safe, heard, and capable. As a qualified English Lecturer with a PGCE and QTS, I offer personalised tutoring in English Language, Literature, and Functional Skills for learners from KS3 to KS5, as well as adult learners working towards Level 1 and Level 2 Functional Skills qualifications. My teaching is rooted in trauma-informed practice, meaning I create a safe, respectful environment where learners feel heard, supported, and empowered to take risks in their learning. I use a student-centred approach, adapting each session to the learner’s goals, confidence level, and preferred learning style. Whether we’re tackling exam technique, building literacy skills, or exploring texts, I focus on clarity, encouragement, and progress. Lessons typically last 60 minutes, though I offer shorter or extended sessions depending on individual needs. I incorporate a mix of: - Active questioning and discussion - Scaffolded tasks and modelled examples - Confidence-building strategies - Clear feedback and reflection time With experience teaching in both mainstream and alternative settings, I’m skilled at supporting learners with SEN, anxiety, or gaps in education. I also bring safeguarding expertise and a background in advocacy, which helps me connect with students who may need a little extra reassurance or flexibility. Whether you're a GCSE student aiming for a grade boost, an adult learner returning to study, or someone who’s lost confidence in English, I’ll meet you where you are — and help you move forward.
