About Mary
I am a retired English Teacher (Secondary Level, therefore primarily focused on KS3 & KS4 although with a working knowledge of the KS2 coverage and requirements as well). I currently work as a GCSE Examiner for AQA, meaning I am totally up to date with all the recent syllabus changes introduced in 2015. This year I marked the Paper 2 (modern texts) Literature exam, but I have previously marked both Paper 1 (Shakespeare & 19th century novel) and the Language Paper so I am not narrowly specialised! I enjoy tutoring on a one-to-one or small group basis, either in my own home (in Oxted) or by visiting students' homes within a limited radius of Oxted, or online. I am enthusiastic, empathetic, and an excellent motivator who can help inspire confidence in those who maybe feel that English is not their strongest subject. Other Qualifications : Law Degree (LLB Honours), Bristol University, 2.2. 1969 BA Hons by Independent Study (Literary Studies), East London University, 2.1. 1994 PGCE, Middlesex University 1996 MA in Education, North London University, 2002

Mary is a reliable and experienced tutor. My son has improved a lot since he started his English lessons with Mary, especially in writing.
