About Jack
I’m a Biology PhD student with an MRes in Biomedical Sciences and a BSc (Hons) in Microbiology. After my Master’s, I trained as a secondary school science teacher through Teach First and enjoyed classroom teaching, but I also wanted to further develop my skills and knowledge as a scientist. I returned to university to pursue a PhD, which allows me to deepen my expertise while continuing to tutor. Alongside my research, I am a lab demonstrator and tutor at my university, enabling me to combine my passion for science and education. I enjoy breaking down complex scientific ideas into clear, manageable steps, helping students gain confidence in their abilities and develop the skills they need to succeed in exams and beyond. Outside of tutoring, I enjoy running, hiking, amateur dramatics, and cooking.

I tailor tutoring sessions to each student’s current attainment and confidence, aiming to help them achieve their specific goals. I am able to adapt lessons according to different exam board specifications and focus on areas where the student needs the most support. Typical lessons last between 1 and 1.5 hours, but I’m flexible depending on the student’s needs. I tutor GCSE students in biology, chemistry, and physics, as well as A-Level and university students in biology. My teaching experience includes classroom secondary science teaching and university-level tutoring, including supporting prospective medical students. Lessons are engaging and designed to build both understanding and confidence.
