About Edward
I am a multi-instrumentalist specialising in Contemporary Music Performance on a wide range of instruments. I started playing the Saxophone at the age of 7, followed by Guitar and Bass as a teenager – achieving a Merit in ABRSM Grade 8 on the Tenor Saxophone before leaving secondary school. I was accepted to the London Centre of Contemporary Music as a mature student in 2011, and have been working as a Musician and Educator throughout London since. My particular interest is in Flow-state and Music Education, and techniques for developing mastery in an easy, fun and intuitive way. I have applied this approach to my own instrumental learning, spending upwards of 30,000 hours over the past decade practising and now play and teach all the primary instrument groups in the Western Convention. I love working with children and Adults alike, at any skill level and on any instrument. I try to understand my student’s entire perspective and experience of Music, and use my skills and experience to support them in the goal of attaining creative and technical freedom in their instrument and idiom of choice.

The best lessons are always where a student comes with something they are excited about and want to learn. I love working with students to understand music and their relation to it, and focus on methods to help them enjoy the process. Music is not hard, instruments are not hard, they just take time. You don't need to 'be good' before you can have fun, and having fun while playing and listening to your instrument is the most powerful kind of practice you can do. I have all kinds of fun tech, including loopers, visualisers, and even an entire Music Education Themepark built into MineCraft, but my favourite kinds of lessons are the ones where the instrument and the music centre stage. Fun tech is great, but Music is good enough that it doesn't need any, and a motivated and excited learner is the only thing we need to groove, y'know?

Perfect! Ed was so welcoming and joyful in our first lesson. I found his musical insights extremely interesting and was surprised by how they subtly transformed how I approached the cello afterwards. I was really happy with that. I felt completely calm and relaxed in his company (definitely not my usual state), enough to even try improving together (not my usual forte!). Highly recommend!

Ed has a gift for understanding his student's thought processes and guiding them to success in their goals. I've known Ed thru our both streaming on Twitch and then I got to spend time with him in person and discover what a truly lovely human being he is. I highly recommend him to adult learners and children due to his years of experience, safeguarding training, passion for music education, and unique ability to help students effectively acquire new musical skills. He is also especially qualified to work with neurodiverse learners. 17/10
