About Jack
I am a Grade 8 Pianist as of 2014, when - having had a few years' break from the instrument - I decided to complete my grades and rediscover my passion having previously achieved Grade 6 in 2007.
I was focusing on music as a hobby around this time, and focusing in particular on composition of my own piano suites, songs and musicals. However, as of 2020 and the challenges that were faced, I decided to quit my job and make music my full time career.
Having performed for events and musically directed in various shows around the area, I decided to pursue teaching the instrument and I must say it is a joy to be able to directly share the passion I have for music and for piano with my pupils!
All you need is the will to do it - it's never too late!

My lessons are taught from my home in Macclesfield and I offer 30 minute and 1 hour slots. 30 minutes is usually a good weekly starting point for beginners, although some pupils prefer to do an hour fortnightly.
I believe that when learning piano, the best tactic is to encourage the pupil to develop in four key areas:
- Performance Technique: The basics of piano are fundamentally found in exercises that can make you perform more naturally such as scales and arpeggios, but also in learning pieces of music.
- Ear for Music: Encouraging the pupil to listen to what's happening as they play is a key passion of mine, increasing their ability to play by ear, recognise modulation and ultimately improving instinct.
- Reading Music: With even a basic understanding of musical notation, my pupils will have access to most anything they wish to play.
- Musical Instinct: For those destined to be creative, instinct can be a fundamental tool to be built on for composition, improvisation and arranging, and even just putting your own style into a piece.
