Teaching Method and Techniques Practical Application: My approach centers around hands-on learning. I believe in teaching animation by doing it, emphasizing practice over theory. We'll animate together, focusing on real-time feedback and corrections. Fundamental Principles: For 2D animation, I start with the 12 basic principles of animation from Disney, like squash and stretch, anticipation, and timing. Each session introduces or deepens understanding of one or more of these principles, showing how they apply universally, from basic to advanced animations. Iterative Learning: I use an iterative approach where students create, review, and refine their work. This cycle helps in understanding the impact of each principle and technique on the animation's quality. Digital Tools: I integrate software like Adobe Animate, TVPaint, or OpenToonz into lessons, teaching not just animation but also how to use these tools efficiently. Visual Examples: I use examples from well-known animations to illustrate points, making abstract concepts tangible. Typical Lesson Plan Warm-Up (5-10 minutes): Quick drawing or animation exercises to get creative juices flowing. Theory Introduction (10 minutes): Discuss one or two animation principles relevant to the lesson's focus. Demonstration (10-15 minutes): I'll show how to apply these principles in a practical animation sequence. Student Practice (20-30 minutes): Students apply what they've learned in their own small animation projects, with me providing guidance. Review and Feedback (15-20 minutes): Group or individual feedback sessions where we analyze what worked, what didn't, and why. Wrap-Up (5 minutes): Recap of the lesson, homework assignment, and preview of the next session. What Sets Me Apart Real-World Experience: Having specialized in 2D animation, I bring both academic knowledge and industry insights into teaching, offering students a comprehensive view of animation. Adaptability: I tailor lessons to the student's current level and goals, whether they're beginners or looking to refine their skills. Focus on Storytelling: Animation isn't just about movement; it's storytelling. I emphasize how animation can convey narrative, emotion, and character. Encouraging Creativity: I foster an environment where students are encouraged to experiment and find their unique style within the principles of animation. Who the Lessons Are For Level: Beginners: Those new to animation, learning the basics. Intermediate: Students with some experience looking to solidify and expand their skills. Specificities: Aspiring animators interested in 2D animation for games, films, or web series. Students interested in character animation, storyboarding, or visual development. Learners focused on traditional animation techniques adapted to digital platforms. My goal is to make every student not only technically proficient but also creatively fulfilled, ready to contribute to or lead in the animation industry.
