About Jack
I am a recent graduate from Cambridge where I studied for my BA and Masters in philosophy. I also achieved 3 A*s at A-Level in Philosophy, History and Government and Politics. Watching my students grow their knowledge and skills as a result of my guidance is what makes me love teaching. With a strong grasp of Western Philosophy and lots of tutoring experience to back it up, I will be able to cater to the vast majority of interests and needs. I am hard working, organised and flexible and would love to help you get the best results possible!

I find that Philosophy is often best taught discursively starting with something the student is familiar with and slowly adding layers of complexity to it. Topics are covered according to my student's needs and interests. I am well versed in Western Philosophy, so will be able to cater to almost any topic you'd like to learn about! I studied philosophy at A-level myself and so am very familiar with the content and style of questions involved. I set, mark and explain past paper questions, as well as providing time for my students to engage with me and properly understand the concepts at work. I give detailed feedback on essays, focusing both on the ideas themselves but also on essay technique. Having degree level knowledge enables me to teach students who want to go beyond the scope of the specification. I am also experienced in the Oxbridge admissions process for students in various humanities subjects including Philosophy, HSPS and PPE. Specifically, I help students with understanding each step in the process, writing their personal statements, and preparing for their interviews and admissions assessments. In the past I have taught primarily through discussion of philosophical issues, similar in style to a supervision / tutorial. However, lessons have also been structured around essay writing skills, mock interviews and going through past paper questions. I am more than happy to be flexible and teach in whatever way my students find most helpful. I am available to tutor in person in Chester as well as online (via Zoom or Google Meet) and am happy to be flexible with timings.

Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the teacher
Jack massively helped me with my work on the philosophy tripos at Cambridge. His explanations are clear, the discussions he facilitates are very engaging, and he is clearly so passionate about his work. Furthermore, he is willing to go above and beyond, especially regarding questions he’s never directly answered himself, doing his own research in order to properly help out. Overall, I can sincerely recommend Jack as a philosophy tutor
