About Paul
I've written lots of code in lots of languages across lots of different platforms to create products and services used by anyone and everyone. I've worked on teams and I've led teams. I've succeeded and I've failed and I've come to understand what factors lead to both and how to avoid, or harness, this.
Outside of our sessions together I will be writing more code to build more systems with various teams and will use these experiences to help you navigate the industry and figure out where you want to be and how to get there.
You should know up-front that I am not a genius nor a mathematician. I am someone just like you who has tried, succeeded and failed at this more than you have. There is nothing you cannot learn and do here, but there are many options.

Software engineering is a strange thing. It suffers from the way it presents itself as an enormously complex and specialised field accessible only to the most evolved mind. However, this is also one of its greatest strengths.
This complexity can effectively scares off those who lack the confidence to try, but may have provided the very perspective and insight needed to solve a problem. On the flip side, this also reduces competition within the field and affords those in it very high salaries.
Now, I am not implying this field is deceptively easy, it's not. It can be a painfully slow and infuriatingly difficult thing to do. Lots of things go wrong, all the time, and failure is a very regular and very necessary exercise.
Throughout our time together you'll come to learn why failure is essential and how it can be used to solve complex problems. You'll come to understand how the many programming languages and tools available are often a preference and not a requirement. Ultimately you will come to learn why a solution works as well as how.
