About Luke
Rethinking maths, one lesson at a time.
About Me – The Maths Mentor
Hi, I’m Luke, a dedicated and experienced maths tutor with over 10 years in education, including seven years of classroom teaching and extensive expertise in one-to-one online tutoring. I specialise in Functional Skills, GCSE Maths, and primary numeracy, working with learners of all ages—from young students building numeracy skills to apprentices and adults needing maths for work or qualifications.
Throughout my career, I have worked with a wide range of learners, including those who have struggled with maths in the past or experienced maths anxiety. I understand that traditional approaches don’t work for everyone, which is why I tailor my lessons to each student’s individual needs, learning style, and pace. My focus is on making maths clear, practical, and engaging, ensuring every learner gains the confidence they need to succeed.
I also have a specialist approach for neurodiverse learners, including those with ADHD, dyslexia, dyscalculia, and autism. By incorporating structured teaching methods, multisensory techniques, real-world applications, and flexible pacing, I create an inclusive learning environment where all students can thrive.
I am able to enrich this approach even further by having first-hand experience as someone with ADHD myself. I was diagnosed only a few years ago in my late 20s, and it has had a monumentally positive impact on not just my own life, but also those that I teach. Anyone can google the symptoms of a neurodivergence, but the biggest part of the puzzle is the underlying struggles that are the reason those symptoms manifest in the first place. Since my diagnosis I have managed to develop strategies that have resulted in positive levels of mental health and resilience I never believed were possible just a few years ago. I want nothing more to share these skills with anyone I teach, diagnosis or not, because there is always a strategy out there to help an individual facing barriers; it's just a matter of understanding how to go looking for it.
For someone who is neurodiverse, life is like being told to learn how to play monopoly, but you only have the instructions for Cluedo. If you're one of those people who hasn't got a brain that matches the mainstream guidebook for learning and life, let's write your own individualised one, together.
As an online tutor, I offer flexible scheduling with sessions available weekday days & evenings, plus weekends. I provide a range of session lengths and frequencies to accommodate different learning needs, whether you’re looking for occasional support, weekly tutoring, or an intensive learning plan.
I also offer a free introduction session to discuss your goals and create a personalised learning plan. Get in touch to start your journey towards maths success!Rethinking maths, one lesson at a time.

In my teaching approach, I discard outdated methods for innovative strategies that enliven learning. Seamlessly blending relevance, relatability, and individualisation, I spark curiosity in each student. Gone are rigid structures; I tailor lessons to resonate with each learner’s unique experiences and interests. Through real-world applications, interactive experiences, and personalised attention, I transform subjects into dynamic explorations. My goal isn't just knowledge transfer, but nurturing profound understanding and passion, enabling students to excel in our constantly evolving world.
Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the teacher
Luke is a fantastic tutor. His ability to build excellent working relationships with students whilst making learning fun, is his forte. He has tutored both my son and a looked after child in our care to reinforce learning and fill gaps in the curriculum delivered in school. Would thoroughly recommend him.
