About Leo
I am an undergraduate studying Philosophy, Politics and Economics at the University of Oxford, having taken History, Politics, Maths, and Economics at A Level. I also took History at GCSE, achieving an A*, where I specialised in the Interwar period of 1918-1939 with a focus on Europe, the Roaring 20s in America, and the Vietnam War. In History A-Level I studied Russia from 1855-1964 and England from 1529-1570. These are sections 2D and 1H of the AQA History course. These are areas in which I have particular expertise, but if these are not your topics, that does not mean I cannot help you or your grade. Indeed, History is more about the skills you develop both for writing essays and learning information. It is these skills that we will focus on during our classes.
I am used to working with students and after helping friends and younger siblings I chose to begin tutoring online from September 2018. In my last year at school I tutored three GCSE students History, German, and Maths and Economics, helping them exceed their predicted grades and achieve an A*, an A, and an A*, respectively, so I have the experience and enthusiasm for this kind of role!

Studying for History exams is about two things: learning the facts and learning how to write essays. Neither of these aspects require specialist knowledge up front. Firstly, I have developed many different ways of learning large amounts of facts. This was particularly important for the Russia 1855-1964 course because there is lots of data from the 20th century, such as levels of fridge production in the 60s, or results of Stalin's Five Year Plans in the 30s. By comparison, the England course on the 16th century had very few particular statistics.
Secondly, and this is the most important aspect, I became able to write strong essays in a short amount of time. The strength of an essay depends on conciseness. Concisely introducing your point, concisely providing evidence, explaining it, assessing it and then moving on. It is a style of writing that is learnt best through practice and examples. These are the main skills you learn from studying History and are the skills we will focus on in our classes.
