Organisations (with more than one person) have hierarchies, someone is the boss and they have people reporting to them. In big companies, an organisation structure chart will show the 'chain of command', i.e. who works for who - the CEO, Directors, Executives, Dept Heads, Senior Managers, Managers and staff.

Organisational structures can be shown in several ways, such as. project structures (where matrix management operates), product (including the product team and specialists from other areas supporting the team, e.g. R&D) and functional (e.g. the Finance team across many Divisions).

Another organisation structure to think about, is the Network - which includes external partners (e.g. technology providers and companies that sell your products). This is needed because to get things done, you may need to get different businesses (who don't work for you) to do things for you.
