Name some figurative sayings

Answers
English has got lots and lots of figurative sayings! For instance: 'A bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush' (meaning that if an opportunity comes along, it's probably worth taking it. If you wait, you might get another, better opportunity, but you can't be sure). (You can see how good the figurative saying is: it expresses a lot in just a few well-chosen and memorable words!)

I'll give you another example. Then if you want any more, get back to me ...... 'Burning with rage' - you could describe a person like this, and it would mean that the person was so angry that it almost seemed as if they were on fire. The expression has a violent and threatening feel, doesn't it? It's more descriptive than just saying 'she was cross'!
