what is the significance of the time it takes for a communications satellite to orbit the earth

Answers
If a communications satellite orbits the earth once per day, then it appears to be 'geostationary' i.e. it appears to be in the same place relative to the earth at all times. This is important because if the earth gets between the satellite and ground based transmission equipment, then communication between the two becomes impossible.
