It depends on the actual protein involved. proteins are components of all living things. Enzymes are proteins, hormones are proteins, antibodies are proteins. The exact chemical composition of carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen and (sometimes) sulphur will determine the 'common' name given to the protein
