About Aimilios

2018-21: I enjoyed teaching both privately and as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at KCL, where I was awarded the Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award of the year (18-19); which is a prize nominated solely by students.

2017-18: I followed a series of seminars at KCL, which aimed to prepare PhD students to teach at both under- and post-graduate level.

I am currently a 4th year PhD student in theoretical physics at King's College London.
This involves:
conducting research in an algebra called E11, which is conjectured to be the underlying symmetry of M theory;
and to give tutorials to undergraduate and postgraduate students as a teaching assistant.

I am currently a 4th year PhD student in theoretical physics at King's College London.
This involves: geometrically extending general relativity by using E11, a lie algebra which is conjectured to be the underlying symmetry of M theory (string theory),
and to give tutorials to undergraduate and postgraduate students.

During my studies I was passionate to invest time in exploring the courses from different perspectives and to draw consistent and clear pictures out of them, and to competitively participating and winning various maths and physics competitions such as the international ‘University Physics Competition’ where I obtained a silver medal in 2013.

In the same way, I place an extremely high priority and care in teaching and I consider it invaluable (obtained an Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award in 2018 while teaching at KCL), as I am extremely passionate in equipping students with ways of thinking and pictures that I would have wanted to be told when I was in their position, and hence to actively help in making the taught material appear straight forward, simple, and flexibly available to confidently use, therefore, contributing in transforming exams from a stressful situation to a natural comfort zone environment where students can unleash their favourite tools to handle the exercises.

Because of the heavy use of maths in theoretical physics, and due to my joint honours BSc degree being both in maths and physics, I am able to guide students equally in both directions of physics and maths in various levels.

I have always believed that all students are perfectly capable of following the taught courses under the right guidance, and that the course structure should be flexible so that the student can absorb 100% of what was explained. I strongly agree with the phrase that education is the one failing on students, and not the opposite; and I would be prepared to help students with any of their goals.

My tutoring is based on:

Explaining the material as clearly as possible.
Thinking of analogies and interpretations that will help students to make sense of the logic behind the maths.
Answering all questions without trying to avoid them in any way.
Encouraging students' ideas, and take them under serious consideration, because it is the natural way of learning and the actual reason for a student to actively participate.

I believe that this way of teaching gradually empowers students and drives them to take responsibility over their studies, making exams seem like enjoyable challenges.
