About Asa
I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Music with a focus on string instruments and have been teaching violin for over 6 years. My teaching spans all ages, from young children discovering music to adults returning after years away from the instrument. I bring structure and creativity to every lesson, with an emphasis on consistency, enjoyment, and musical fluency. My background includes solo and ensemble performances, orchestral playing, and collaborative chamber work, all of which I draw from to enrich my teaching. I believe in meeting each student where they are and moving forward with a balance of encouragement and constructive feedback. Technique matters, but so does joy—both are nurtured in my sessions. As a teacher, I aim to make music a lasting part of every student’s life, no matter their future goals. Whether a student wants to play in an orchestra, master solo pieces, or simply enjoy music for themselves, I support that journey with personalised guidance and dedication to musical growth.

Lessons are designed to develop both foundational skills and musical sensitivity. For beginners, we focus on how to hold the violin and bow properly, understand finger placement, and read simple musical notation. We gradually introduce rhythm exercises, scales, and beginner pieces to build coordination and confidence in early stages. A strong technical base is established with a gentle, paced approach. As learners progress, lessons incorporate vibrato technique, shifting, dynamics, and more complex bowing styles. We study well-known repertoire to develop expression, musical interpretation, and tone control. Ear training and theory are introduced to deepen understanding, while duets and play-alongs help students develop timing and ensemble awareness in a fun way. Advanced students engage with concert repertoire, explore stylistic contrast across classical and modern works, and refine their tone and technique for auditions or performances. I focus on shaping individual expression while reinforcing precision and fluidity. Each lesson is customised to the student’s goals—whether it's personal growth, performance, or examination preparation.
