My teaching methods vary depending on the level at which I would be teaching. The core content of learning any language is vocabulary and grammar, which I help students to apply through the four ways in which we use languages: Writing, Reading, Speaking and Listening. Therefore I try to think of teaching methods that as a student I find helpful and engaging. Examples of these include, small speaking role plays to practise colloquial spoken language, vocabulary games to ensure that core words stick in your long term memory, mini research activities in that particular language for slightly more advanced students to apply the language for researching any topic which the student is interested in! For listening, I find it effective for students to listen to slow recordings of the local news together in that language and then we can repeat back our findings, and it's also a great source of new vocab.
I am currently finishing my second year of an undergraduate degree in Arabic and German at the University of Exeter after having studied German, History and Art at A-Level and French to AS Level in school. I have a strong passion for languages and believe that they can be one of the most rewarding skills to learn if taught in an engaging way! I have been living in Amman since September 2018 as part of my year abroad and will be there until June 2019 and so have extensive knowledge of colloquial Arabic as well as Modern Standard Arabic (written language). I have also spent considerable periods of time in Germany and Austria in order to improve my spoken German and have also spent time living in Bonn, Germany as part of an ongoing language exchange with a local family. I have experience of tutoring GCSE German level students and have had 2 previous clients who I helped through the exam period.
