That poem was featured in his first published work, 'Death of a Naturalist'.

He would publish 18 poetry collections and several prose collections over the course of his career. Still, it was his early work that won him the most praise, culminating in the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1995. Awards aside, Mr Heaney deserves his place among Ireland's most famous writers.

Hope is not optimism, which expects things to turn out well, but something rooted in the conviction that there is good worth working for.
