In Glasgow, we like to have fun. Note all our festivals, theatres, bands and dance venues. But, we have our serious side, too. Our universities are top-notch, and our city is home to some of the UK's most progressive businesses.
Among them, we find fitness initiatives. Every ladies only gym in Glasgow we visited had something special to offer, be it the facilities' amenities, or their staff. Even the London women's only gyms we saw couldn't beat Glasgow's offerings. It was hard to choose which Glasgow ladies' gyms to feature, but these are the best ones.

Strong Like a Mutha

We found so much to like about this facility that we struggled to cover everything. Above all, we rave about the 8-person rule that shapes open gym sessions. Touring the women-only gyms in Manchester, we met many gymgoers frustrated that they had to wait for a machine. Mutha's 8-person limit means you'll always have a kit available.
We also loved Mutha's unique idea of posting daily workout challenges. Before you start your session, you can see what's 'on the board' - a particular routine, or emphasis on a targeted area.
You don't have to take the challenge, of course. But, if it sounds exciting, a staff member is ready to guide you through it.

Sorella Strength
Once again, a women only gym in Glasgow raises the bar (pun intended). This facility's name points to its focus: strength and conditioning. Sorella's coaches will put you through your paces, while keeping things lively and peppy.
Sorella's Project Peach is a small-group initiative that blends session work with private coaching. The trainers will help you understand your body's exercise and nutritional needs, and check in with you online.

The Circle Gym Club
This was one of the most impressive systems on our list, far outpacing anything we saw in any other UK women-only training facility. The Bungee Super Fly system alone makes this club noteworthy. This is the sole women's gym Glasgow with this feature. And then, the Milon gym takes your fitness efforts to the next level.
Talk about high-tech! The Milonizer scans your body, and stores your biometric markers. Then, as you advance through the circuit, each machine adjusts to your specifications. No need to fiddle with settings and adjustments. Simply tap your card and get moving!

Citypark Fitness
Unlike most most gyms, Citypark does not schedule classes. Instead, subscribers select an open slot in the gym's timetable, for their guided workouts. You might say this system is a private trainer clearinghouse, with kit and extras provided.

- The kit: resistance machines, cardio machines, weights and bumper plates, functional training tools
- The extras: personal trainers, wellness classes, nutrition and diet coaching, access to regular gym times
This is an ordinary coed gym that hosts scheduled ladies' sessions. You might say that Citypark sponsors a private, group physical training club, just for female athletes.

Alt Fitness
Alt is a women-mostly fitness centre, it's not exclusively for females. More than any comparable gym in Liverpool we found, inclusiveness underpins Alt's vibe.
Classes include aerial and kids' aerial, Pole flow, trapeze, Strong AF weight lifting, Body awakening boot camp, and Flexibility yoga. These activities demand coaching, which happens in a group setting. You won't find any one-to-one trainers here, but you can ask your instructor for help.

Jissenkai Kickboxing
If discipline and self-defence are the skills you need to build, this is the dojo for you. Kickboxing is a high-energy workout that builds stamina and strength, flexibility and reflexes. Jissenkai's self-defence courses take those principles a step further. You can learn kickboxing basics in a group setting, and request one-to-one sessions to build your skills.
This intense workout is cardio, conditioning, toning, and strength-building, all in one.

Crossfit Glasgow

Once again, a Glasgow sports facility outshines all others, this time with a programme called Bumps and Buggies. Even the wealth of women's gyms in Birmingham we toured had nothing comparable. These sessions are for expecting and new mothers who want to maintain their fitness levels.
If you're still waiting for your new arrival, count on Crossfit's coaches to guide your efforts. If your bundle of joy is already here, bring him/her with you. The staff will mind them so you can have an hour to work on yourself.
This extraordinary programme takes place in a fully kitted-out gym, with regular classes and equipment everywhere. These fitness professionals run up to 150 sessions, seven days a week. You're welcome to join them, if you can safely do so.

With all the outlets offering sessions for females, it would be hard to declare just one to be the best gym in Glasgow. Each of these programmes and facilities offers something unique, but not all of them make such trainers available. In Leeds, we found programmes for women similarly lacking.
1. Group fitness courses often do not address individual needs.
2. A personal trainer will plan programmes to meet your fitness goals.
3. Private coaches give you the motivation to stick with your regimen.
Besides, you might not feel ready to work out in public, no matter how much you long to get fit. So, a private trainer online, or one that comes to your home, is the ideal solution. You might even meet at your nearby outdoor gym to get a fresh-air workout.
