• When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

  My father is an Accountant so I was always aware of the profession since a very young age. As I grew older and began realising my Maths is to a very high level (although I know this does not directly relate to Accounting and Tax J), I took up Accounting at A-Level and thoroughly enjoyed it.
  
  
  Tax interest came a little later whilst I was working as an Accountant and Auditor, where I began being more exposed to the widely changing legislation and complex ideas and strategies that come about tax. My ultimate interest in Tax is due to the fact that it relates to nearly every individual and I can use my knowledge to help people with their tax affairs.
  
  
  Private and public tutoring has been with me for years now and I actually started tutoring/teaching from the age of 18. Some of my class sizes have been up to 100 at a time. I have also been commended for my ability to make something difficult sounds simple and easy, which I think is a key feature for a successful tutor.

• Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

  Personal Tax, Business Tax, Business Compliance, Corporation Tax and Inheritence Tax

  Love teaching all the modules and my current role as a Tax Advisor (and previously Accountant) allows me to be fluent in all areas of the syllabus.

• Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

  My main teacher growing up has certain effective qualities required for teaching and I definitely inherited them. He would be able to control a class naturally and regular student success in all fields is proof of his inspiration.

• What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

  A teacher should be understanding, articulate and be able to come across fluently and clearly. Fluently would mean that the teacher should be skilled and knowledgeable in terms of the subject.
  
  
  I also think respect and manners are very important. Moreover, lessons should be made fun, engaging and enjoyable no doubt!

• Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

  I have had many students that have failed the same paper one or many times and they have approached me. Many have come to me as their last chance personally or due to pressures from their firm (like the Big 4), facing the ultimatum that if they fail again, they would lose their job.
  
  
  As well as effectively teaching the students, I have to also be wary and mindful of the emotional stresses and pressures, and I actively seek to increase their enthusiasm and confidence prior to the exam. Many have thanked me for this during and after being successful! It is an extremely joyful and proud moment!!

• What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

  I had a few failures myself whilst sitting the exams, but it only made me come out stronger. Exam failure is a part of the process and no student should feel down about it J

• Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

  I enjoy helping people and I find teaching to be highly rewarding. It gives me a sense of satisfaction and the amazing feeling when your student informs you that they have PASSED is inexplainable.
