I am a firm believer in bringing a variety of teaching styles to lessons rather than sticking to the same format day after day. Different students and different curricular content may require varying levels of teacher vs student-led education. I want to empower students by asking strategic questions to lead them to the answers and understanding that they need rather than offering up answers freely. I also believe in forming a relationship with whoever I am teaching as I believe that the best learning occurs when there is a mutual trust and respect between teacher and student. I am hoping to work with high school students in physics and physics-related content but am open to other high school sciences as well as junior high science.
A typical class with me would ideally include you sending me the specifics of what you are struggling with (subject, concept, or assignment, etc.) so that I can be optimally prepared to meet online with you and have necessary materials present. We would then talk about what you are struggling with and you would talk me through what your current understanding of the concept is. Then, through conversation and questioning I would try to lead you to correcting your mistake in a meaningful way that will stick with you more than if I were to just point out the problem and how to fix it.
