About Nicola
I am a flute player from Scotland, living as a professional musician in London. I began playing the flute aged 9 and fell in love with the instrument. I feel very privileged to be able to play and teach music as a career and always hope the passion I have is transferred to my students and audiences.
I have been teaching in a wide variety of settings for over a decade, mainly private students of all ages but also teaching groups of teenagers in schools across London for the Music in Secondary Schools Trust.I also have experience workshop leading and have participated in a course with Drake Music Scotland which trained me in methods of teaching students with disabilities.
I recently graduated with Distinction from the Masters programme at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, studying with Kersten McCall, Vincent Cortvrint and Mariya Semotyuk-Schlaffke (all members of the Koninklijk Concertgebouworkest). Before this, I graduated with a first-class Bachelor from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London.
I am grateful to have performed orchestrally with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra Camerata and the Opera de Baugé Festival Orchestra, and have performed as a soloist in Tivoli Vredenburg and Muziekgebouw an’t IJ.

My lessons are focussed on finding the joy in music- a goal that I have myself which I love to pass on to my students
I welcome students of all ages and abilities. Whatever your aim, we can work together to tailor a unique method that suits you and allows you to feel confident with the instrument. I am experienced in preparing students for exams and will ensure you enter confident and prepared.
I have over a decade of experience teaching in a variety of settings so I have a method to suit everyone, whether you want to play your very first note or are ready to step on stage for a concerto.
I cover all aspects of flute playing including note reading, sound production, posture, technique as well as musicality and expression.
I am based in Muswell Hill and happy to travel to you.
