About Matthew
Hi, I’m an ATS qualified academic and study skills tutor with a real love for the role, and more than 9 years' experience working with university students at undergrad and postgrad level. I currently tutor students one-one-one at Liverpool John Moores University across a broad range of courses, from drama and media to engineering, focussing on planning, essay structure, dissertation work, academic writing and proofing, research and referencing.
I also greatly enjoy creative writing, having written a number of short scripts and two screenplays. I've tutored a number of creative writing students across drama, film and media courses, along with
7 years college teaching experience delivering A-Level Film and BTEC Media.
Because of the current Covid situation I'm working only through Zoom, Skype and GoogleDocs at the moment, which has proven really popular with all my students!

Matt has been a fantastic tutor over the past few years and has been a tremendous help with my degree. He was always very patient and made time to ensure all my work had been looked over before submission, I couldnt recommend more!
I have been in contact with Matt now for four years, through my degree and currently my master’s programme. At the start we covered lots of writing techniques, which I took over to my assessments and examinations; this really benefited me, teaching the principles of exceptional writing for reports. My writing style over the past four years has dramatically improved, with me feeling more confident in producing a good piece of work, which is evident in the little alterations we have made to my work in the past year. The flexibility of the support also benefited me, fitting around my schedule, but I would always try and meet up for an hour each week.
Before university I didn’t know I had dyslexia but had always had some additional support with school tutors and private tutors. I never saw the benefit of my tutors as the sessions were never tailored to me and were more generic lessons. During the time with Matt all my sessions have been beneficial to me, with all sessions tailored to what I felt was needed from the meeting. My time with Matt has definitely affected my degree in a positive way and made my time at university more enjoyable, as I always had someone who was willing to help with my work and gave me that extra confidence of what I was doing made sense.Without Matt’s help as my dyslexia tutor I very much doubt I would have completed my degree. He was a constant support throughout my time at university. Being able to check in with him every week provided much needed guidance and structure. I often found University overwhelming so having a dyslexia tutor was essential for me to complete my work. One of the most helpful aspects of having Matt as a tutor was that we would proofread my work together, he would then help me amend all the mistakes I had missed, I noticed a significant jump in my grades once Matt started helping me with my assignments. Matt always went above and beyond as a tutor and his dedication to his students is amazing, I always knew that If I had any issues with my degree I could always contact him and he would always help.
A genuinely great guy that cares about his studentsI have known Matt for over eight years. Matt is a highly qualified professional tutor that possesses all of the skills required to support his students. He is professional and he works with integrity. Matt is able to support students from a wide variety of backgrounds that have different levels of needs. He is also capable of tutoring students that are studying different courses, from law, business, drama and creative writing. Matt is trustworthy and reliable and I have no hesitation in recommending him to any organisation as I know that he will be as much as an asset to them as he is to us.
Matt Nish has been a great asset to my learning throughout second year. My dyslexia may not be severe, however it does affect how I cope in education a lot. I struggle mostly with the grammar side of literature, especially the organisation of my paragraphs and larger essays. Matt has improved my knowledge of grammar, even though I recognised that I needed punctuation I wouldn't always know where to use it or how, Matt would always assist me with this. My writing has become a lot more sophisticated and professional.
My organisation has always been very good, however, Matt has been able to help me prepare for certain assignments and organised that side of my timetables with less stress than it usually would cause me. Having Matt as my tutor has really eased my stress and panic that I had during exam season.
Even though going through my work was the main priority, I also felt like my mental health and wellbeing in general was another priority. The small things like discussing my week with him helped me concentrate better with my work at times and made it more comfortable to talk through my work. I have never had a personal tutor before, so I know and can really tell that it has helped me. I have changed a lot in second year and so has my work. I would have never envisioned myself getting a first throughout my University experience, however Matt made that happen with the perseverance of having to go through my work repeatedly. I could not have asked for anything better.
