About Ibis
I was born and raised in Cuba and moved 5 years ago to the U.S. to pursue a doctorate in Hispanic Studies and Visual Culture. I have always been passionate about literature, cuisine, music, and films. I have visited Spain, Puerto Rico, and Panama which has given me a new perspective when teaching Spanish at intermediate and advanced levels to students from different cultural and economic backgrounds. While growing up, I had two remarkable female professors who were funny, caring, and passionate. They continue to inspire me on this path to teaching. Like them and many others before me, I am strongly committed to creating meaningful cultural experiences for my students and a learning environment where they feel supported and develop their confidence and love for the Spanish language.

By taking Spanish with me, you will learn the language and the culture with a trained language professor and a Spanish-speaking native from Cuba.
In my classes, you will enhance your understanding of different Spanish accents and cultural traditions. You will learn to introduce yourself, ask for information, and express your interests and opinions on several topics.
My lessons include varied activities such as vocabulary games, songs, guessing games, tong twisters, and many others. I will provide grammar reviews and other class materials that will help you improve listening, writing, oral production, reading comprehension, and grammar.
My classes are intended for students who have at least a basic Spanish level and wish to acquire intermediate or advanced proficiency.
